Job Description
The Diesel Motor Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical faults in diesel-powered vehicles, including the responsibility of the installation, servicing, repair, and maintenance of 4×4 and off-road vehicle components and accessories. The role involves working with a wide range of ADR-approved products, diesel and petrol engines, and specialised off-road equipment to ensure vehicles are fit for purpose and meet customer specifications. This role is essential to maintaining the reliability and safety of our vehicle fleet and delivering professional services to clients.
The Fitter & Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for the installation, servicing, and repair of 4×4 accessories and vehicle components sold through Aussie Offroad Megastores. This role requires a high level of mechanical skill, attention to detail, and a passion for the off-road industry. The successful candidate will ensure all products are fitted to manufacturer specifications, deliver quality workmanship, and provide technical support to customers and team members.
Key Responsibilities
Installation of a range of off-road accessories, including bull bars, brush bars, rock sliders, rear bar wheel carriers, roof racks, suspension lift kits, driving lights, tents, awnings, and 12V accessories and well as the servicing of diesel 4WD vehicles.
This also includes Diagnosing, servicing, and repairing diesel and petrol engines, driveline components, and suspension systems.
Carry out pre-installation inspections and post-installation quality checks.
Work from technical drawings, fitting instructions, and product specifications.
Ensure all work is performed safely, adhering to WHS regulations and company policies.
Liaise with customers to explain installation procedures, maintenance requirements, and aftercare.
Maintain an organised and clean workshop environment.
Support custom build projects by fitting specialised components and accessories to meet client requirements.
Assist in the testing of newly installed products to ensure correct function and performance.
Keep accurate records of all work completed, parts used, and timeframes.
Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, and related mechanical systems.
Perform maintenance and overhauls on heavy and light commercial vehicles.
Use diagnostic tools to identify faults and ensure correct repairs.
Conduct preventative servicing, including oil changes, filter replacements, brake checks, and cooling system servicing.
Replace or repair faulty engine parts such as pistons, bearings, gears, and valves.
Maintain service records and report mechanical faults and job completion updates.
Adhere to workplace safety protocols and workshop procedures.
Collaborate with workshop supervisors and procurement teams to ensure timely parts availability.
Skills and Qualifications Required
Formal qualifications in Diesel Mechanics / Automotive Servicing (e.g., TESDA NC II – Diesel Mechanic, Automotive NC II) Mechanical Trade, Diesel Mechanics, or equivalent trade qualification.
Minimum 3–5 years of full-time work experience as a Diesel Motor Mechanic (international experience accepted).
Proven ability to perform complex mechanical repairs, including engine and transmission overhauls.
Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems as applied in diesel vehicles.
Good communication and record-keeping skills.
Ability to work independently and follow safety guidelines.
Essential
Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Light Vehicle Mechanic.
Proven experience in mechanical fitting, automotive repairs, or accessory installation.
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work from technical instructions and manuals.
Commitment to quality workmanship and attention to detail.
Current driver's licence.
Desirable
Experience with 4×4 vehicle builds, accessories, and modifications.
Auto electrical knowledge (12V systems, lighting, communications).
Forklift licence.
Auto electrical knowledge, particularly 12V systems and communications equipment.
Experience in welding and fabrication.
Prior experience with ADR-compliant automotive installations.
