Mechanical supervisor for washplant shutdown

The Role


You will be responsible for supervising mechanical crews during a scheduled 5-day wash plant shut each month. This includes breakdown repairs, equipment overhauls, component replacement, and plant installations, ensuring all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with site and shutdown requirements.


Shutdown Scopes Include:

* Structural steel installation and modifications
* Piping installation, repairs, and upgrades
* Fixed and mobile plant maintenance and upgrades
* Shutdown preparation, execution, and close-out works


Key Responsibilities

* Supervise and coordinate mechanical crews during the 5-day shutdown each month
* Lead daily pre-starts, toolbox talks, and shutdown briefings
* Interpret engineering drawings, scopes of work, and shutdown plans
* Manage labour, equipment, and resources including EWPs, cranage, and rigging
* Identify and resolve issues quickly to minimise downtime
* Liaise with planners, engineers, and other supervisors to meet critical shutdown timelines
* Ensure strict compliance with site safety systems and legislative requirements
* Complete permits, reports, and shutdown documentation
* Lead from the front and set the standard for safety and workmanship


About You

* Trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter or equivalent
* 5+ years' experience in a supervisor or senior leading hand role
* Strong background in mine site shutdowns, outages, or heavy industry maintenance
* Supervisor qualifications S1, S2, S3 (or equivalent) + G2 – Risk Facilitator
* Must hold Australian citizenship
* High-risk work licences (rigging, EWP, working at heights) highly regarded
* Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
* Confident leader with strong communication skills
* Able to perform under pressure in time-critical shutdown environments
* Safety-focused with a proactive approach to problem solving
