Senior Laboratory Technician – Protein Purification and Characterisation

* Salary: $93,491.78 – $100,296.98 plus 17% superannuation (HEW Level 6)
* Location: St Lucia Campus
Key Responsibilities
* Express and purify proteins using bacterial systems; perform biochemical assays to analyse protein–protein interactions.
* Maintain laboratory operations: equipment maintenance, ordering supplies, managing chemicals and waste, troubleshooting experiments, preparing reports, and providing training to students and researchers.
* Ensure workplace health and safety: risk management, inductions, safety training, incident reporting, audit compliance and safe design principles.
* Coordinate equipment requests, maintain consumable inventories, support budgeting and procurement, supervise casual staff, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
* Relevant degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology or related field plus experience in protein expression and purification.
* Desirable experience in biophysical methods, protein crystallisation, structure determination, or computational protein design.
* Strong communication, interpersonal, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
* Willingness to collaborate, accept communal responsibilities, and learn new experimental procedures.
* Detail oriented and accurate record‑keeping.
