About the role
Western Health is looking for enthusiastic Emergency Physicians to join the Sunshine Emergency Department for a fixed-term position funded by short-term Department of Health funding. Up to 76 hours per fortnight are available from July to January 2026, covering 7 days per week with a variety of morning and afternoon shifts, and nonclinical hours consistent with the EBA.
Successful applicants will provide expert clinical care to patients within the dynamic environment of the Emergency Department (ED) and Short Stay Unit, working collaboratively with multi‐disciplinary staff. They will be expected to deliver timely, high‐quality care and demonstrate the responsibility and leadership expected of a senior medical role.
The Sunshine Hospital Emergency Department handles over 100,000 annual presentations and operates as a mixed adult and paediatric ED. This role covers adult presentations, with occasional assistance to paediatric cases. The department is divided into resuscitation, SSU, main cubicles, fast track, and front‐of‐house areas, offering exposure to each area with a diverse range of presentations.
Key responsibilities
* Emergency consultant supervision of patients and junior medical staff
* Managing ED flow and prioritising the Statement of Priorities
* Education and training of junior medical staff
