The Regional and Fire Management Services Division's Operational Training Unit (OTU) designs, delivers and records operational training to meet the needs of the agency with a strong focus on regional delivery. The OTU also maintains the department's capacity to offer nationally recognised training, eLearning solutions and accurate training records.

We are currently seeking to establish a pool of suitable candidates in the role of Mentored Aboriginal Training Employment Scheme (MATES) Training Support Officer.

Under the general direction of the Coordinator MATES, this position:

Case manages and delivers nationally accredited Conservation and Ecosystem Management (CEM) qualifications through training and assessment.
Mentors Aboriginal trainees throughout their qualification pathways, working collaboratively with workplace supervisors to support on-the-job learning, and facilitating Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) skill development.
Facilitates operational training.
Maintains effective liaison with external Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
Ensures compliance with ASQA Standards for RTOs.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should address the following three (3) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than three (3) pages in total.

Demonstrated experience in mentoring employees and delivering training, preferably for Aboriginal employees and nationally accredited programs, including identifying individual training needs and resolving training gaps.
Evidence of ability to liaise and negotiate effectively with stakeholders, including supervisors, management, and training providers, to ensure successful training delivery.
Practical experience supervising on-ground conservation and land management activities in a natural resource setting.

The following essential criteria will be assessed at some stage during the selection process.

Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills tailored for differing audiences and demonstrated proficiency in using computer software for reports and presentations.
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or ability to acquire within 6 months) and Certificate IV in Conservation and Ecosystem Management (or ability to acquire) as a minimum and/or Bachelor-level qualification in Education, Conservation and Ecological Management or related field.
Ongoing willingness and ability to participate in fire management activities that contribute to bushfire suppression and prescribed burning operations commensurate with capability, capacity, training and level of experience.
Ability to travel and stay overnight, away from home, frequently throughout the State.
Understanding of Work Health and Safety and equity and diversity principles and practices.
