Kilmartin Pharmacy
Seymour, Victoria · Serving the community since 1973
Pharmacist
Part-time or Full-time · Permanent
We are a community pharmacy in transition — deliberately building toward a model where our pharmacist spends more time on patient care and less time on the bench. We are looking for a pharmacist who wants to help us get there — someone who will roll their sleeves up today while helping to shape what this pharmacy looks like in 12 months.
About Us
Kilmartin Pharmacy has served the Seymour community for over 50 years. We are a small, close knit team with high standards and a clear direction for how we want to grow. We are actively training our dispensary technician team so that over time, our pharmacist can practise at the top of their scope — leading patient care, supervising clinical workflow, and being the face of healthcare in this community.
That transition is underway. It is not complete. Right now, this role requires a pharmacist who can do the full job while actively contributing to building a better one.
Where We Are Heading
Our 6–12 month goal
We are building a dispensary model where trained technicians manage prescription workflow and DAA packing under supervision, freeing our pharmacist to focus on patient counselling, medication reviews, chronic disease support, and relationships with local healthcare practitioners.
The pharmacist we hire now will help build and embed that model — not inherit it ready made.
What You'll Do
Right now, this role covers the full scope of community pharmacy practice:
* Dispensing, prescription checking, and managing the daily dispensary workflow alongside the team
* Patient counselling and consultations at the counter and point of dispensing
* Supervising and supporting dispensary technicians as they develop their competencies
* Overseeing dose administration aid (DAA) packing — supervising sessions, checking completed packs, and liaising with carers and aged care facilities
* Building relationships with GPs, specialists, nurses, and other local healthcare practitioners
* Supporting patients with chronic disease management, medication reviews, and health screening
* Contributing to the development of pharmacy systems, protocols, and team training
As the team's capability grows, the balance of this role will shift — with more time on patient care and clinical leadership, and less on routine dispensing. You will be part of making that happen.
What We're Looking For
You are probably the right person if you:
* Are comfortable doing the full job today — including the bench work — while keeping an eye on where we are going
* Take pride in building things, not just running them
* Lead by doing — you set the standard through your own work, not just by directing others
* Communicate directly and give feedback as a matter of course
* Hold yourself and your team to a high standard — accuracy, process, and accountability matter here
* Value consistency and doing things well every time over novelty and constant change
* Are genuinely available for the hours this role requires — please be upfront about this when you apply
We need a team player, not a passenger
This is a small team. Everyone contributes. We are not looking for someone who wants to step into a ready-built clinical role and leave the operational work to others. We are looking for someone who sees building that model as part of the job — and who takes satisfaction in doing it well.
Hours
This role is part-time or full-time depending on the right candidate.
Availability required:
* 2–3 weekdays per week, 9:00 – 5:30 (shorter weekday shifts can be accommodated)
* Every second Saturday, 9:00 – 12:30
Genuine availability for these hours is essential. Availability mismatches are the most common reason a new hire doesn't work out here. Please include a clear picture of your availability in your application.
What We Offer
* A genuine opportunity to shape how a community pharmacy practises — not just fill a vacancy
* A structured, accountable team environment that takes training and development seriously
* A dispensary technician team actively growing in capability — giving you more clinical headroom over time
* Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience
* A community that knows your name and a role where your work makes a visible difference
Requirements
* Current AHPRA registration as a Pharmacist — no exceptions
* Legal right to work in Australia — no visa sponsorships
* Demonstrated understanding of PBS pricing, claiming, and invoicing
* Experience with dose administration aid (DAA) packing systems and workflow
* Proven ability to prioritise and manage dispensary workflow efficiently under pressure
* Strong communication skills — including the ability to manage difficult conversations with patients, carers, and healthcare practitioners with confidence and professionalism
* Values consistency and process over novelty — you find satisfaction in doing the same thing well every time
* Community pharmacy experience preferred; motivated new graduates with a team first attitude will be considered
