About the Job

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician to join our team on a permanent full-time basis.

As a Mechanical Technician, you will play a key role in conducting Set to Work (STW) activities, testing, commissioning, maintaining and ensuring the operation of the Hunter Class Frigate (HCF) ships systems.

The ideal candidate will have experience with mechanical hydraulic equipment and hold a Cert III in Engineering (Mechanical) or a relevant engineering qualification.

You will be required to train and qualify as an Authorised Individual to operate and maintain the ships systems.

In addition, you will be expected to bring your technical expertise to the team, share knowledge, drive best practices, and foster continuous improvement.

This is a great opportunity to work in a thriving sector that puts us at the forefront of exciting and meaningful work.

About the Role

* Conduct STW, testing, commissioning and maintenance of the hull and deck systems.
* Train and qualify as an Authorised Individual to operate and maintain the ships systems.
* Bring your technical expertise to the team—share knowledge, drive best practices, and foster continuous improvement.
* Plan, check, and carry out mechanical isolations of ship equipment and systems.
* Complete test, maintenance, and STW documentation using relevant digital tools.
* Work closely with the HCF T&C Lead Technician to execute the T&C program.
* Assist in training and upskilling staff, ensuring critical skills are shared across the team.
* Ensure all work meets WHS legislation and BAE Systems SHE policies.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will need:

* Experience with mechanical hydraulic equipment.
* Cert III in Engineering (Mechanical) minimum or a relevant engineering qualification.
* Hands-on experience in testing, commissioning, and verification of systems (highly desirable).
* Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills to tackle technical challenges across functions.
* Skilled in planning and coordination to keep tasks on track.
* Experienced in computer-based commissioning documentation, risk assessments, and work instructions.

What We Offer

We offer a competitive remuneration package, flexible work options, including hybrid arrangements and a 9-day fortnight to help you balance work and life.

We believe in hiring for potential, we know that some candidates hesitate if they don't tick all the boxes. If this role interests you, but you don't meet all the criteria, we still encourage you to apply.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and strongly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply.
