Office of Senator Claire Chandler

The office of Senator Claire Chandler is seeking applications for a full-time ongoing Media & Communications Officer, based in Richmond, TASMANIA.

Position Overview

This role provides communications and media support to Senator Claire Chandler, contributing to both her parliamentary work and public engagement. The position involves creating and managing content across media platforms, coordinating media appearances, and supporting electorate outreach. Regular travel within Tasmania and occasional interstate travel are required, along with flexible hours during sitting weeks and major events.

The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:

· Media Strategy & Engagement: Develop and implement proactive media strategies to promote the Senator's positions on key issues. Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets.

· Content Creation: Draft high-quality media releases, opinion pieces, speeches, newsletters, and social media content.

· Digital Communications: Manage the Senator's social media platforms and website, ensuring timely updates and engaging content that reflects current priorities and events.

· Monitoring & Analysis: Track media coverage, public sentiment, and emerging issues relevant to the Senator's portfolio. Provide timely briefings and recommendations.

· Event Support: Assist with planning and promoting public events, press conferences, and community engagements. Coordinate media attendance and coverage.

· Internal Collaboration: Work closely with the Senator and staff to ensure communications are aligned with legislative and constituency work.

· Travel: Regular state, interstate and Canberra travel may be required for this role, with occasional irregular work hours, particularly during parliamentary sitting weeks.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:

* Strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail and tone.

* Strategic thinker with the ability to respond quickly to media opportunities and challenges.

* Proficiency in digital media tools and platforms.

* Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced political environment.

* Ability to work as part of a team, under time constraints and strict deadlines with minimum supervision.

* Prior political experience is preferred but not essential, however an interest in and understanding of the political environment is required.

* Demonstrated professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement which include:

* A commencing salary between $76,910 and $89,793 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.

* An additional Electorate Support Allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.

* Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).

* An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

Applicants should note the following:

* An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.

* The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.

* Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.

* The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
