Based onsite in Portland, Victoria, this role will see you supporting a major heavy industry operation by delivering high quality mechanical design and drafting services across a mix of sustaining capital projects, maintenance support, and brownfield modifications. You’ll join a collaborative engineering and design team working closely with site stakeholders to develop practical, safe and efficient solutions in a complex industrial environment.
Responsibilities
Produce high quality 3D models and detailed 2D engineering drawings for plant modifications and new installations using InventorDevelop plant layouts, including piping systems, mechanical components, and materials handling equipment such as conveyors, hoppers, platework, platforms and heavy machineryComplete conceptual and detailed designs from engineering sketches or specification outlinesParticipate in reviews of mechanical, piping and structural designs and provide advice on drafting challenges and compliance requirementsWork directly with operational and maintenance teams to troubleshoot issues and develop practical design solutionsProvide clarification and technical support during construction and commissioning phasesCollaborate within a growing design and engineering team supporting sustaining capital projects and ongoing maintenance activitiesReview vendor drawings and data to ensure seamless integration with existing smelter infrastructureUpdate and maintain technical drawings to ensure accurate as built documentationConduct site investigations, measurements and inspections to support design accuracyRespond to drawing information requests and provide drafting support as requiredPrepare Bills of Materials (BOMs)
What You Will Bring
Intermediate or higher proficiency with Inventor and AutoCAD; Vault experience advantageousExperience across 3D modelling, 2D drawing creation and drawing checkingStrong understanding of interdisciplinary design and the ability to integrate mechanical, structural and piping inputsExperience working on brownfield sites (aluminium smelting preferred)Ability to apply Safe Design principles across asset lifecycle considerationsStrong communication and collaboration skillsKnowledge of materials, manufacturing processes and prototypingHeavy industry brownfields experienceExperience or knowledge relating to AS 1657
