Primary objective
The Manager Prisoner Monies and Business Support is responsible for the financial management and the provision of high quality
administrative and operation/business support services to the Darwin Correctional Centre (DCC).
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure that the operation of DCC finance and procurement activities are accurate and efficient including contract management,
prisoner purchases, the Accounts Officers Trust Account (AOTA) and the Prisoner Money Management System (Pronto).
2. Coordination, management and leadership of the financial and administration services offered by the Business Support Unit,
including staff development and performance management in consultation with key stakeholders.
3. Devise and implement budgetary processes to ensure effective and appropriate financial recording and reporting systems are
in place to control correctional centre's budgets to ensure appropriate management information.
4. Managing contract and asset management for items outside of the Facilities Contract.
5. Understand the operations of the facility and ensure that Management are aware of the latest and key issues (inclusive of fiscal
management, business operational direction).
6. Deliver end of year reporting, including managing the delegation of tasks in consultation with the Business Manager and General
Manager.
7. Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders in relation to budget matters.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in financial and business support services including the management of private monies/trust
accounts and complex reconciliations, managing contra accounts and appropriate revenue collection/reporting.
2. Demonstrated experience managing small teams with high workloads to achieve outcomes, including staff development and
performance management.
3. Demonstrated high standards of written and oral communication skills, with the ability to explain and present financial
information in a clear and logical manner.
4. Experience in the use of computerised accounting systems and spreadsheet applications. Experience in budget formulation and
experience in cash flow development and budget management.
5. Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team within a high-volume work environment managing confidential and sensitive
information, manage time effectively, prioritise workloads and approach issues in an innovative way.
6. Interpersonal skills of a high order with the ability to communicate effectively and interact with clients at all levels including
Aboriginal Australians as well as other culturally diverse groups.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in a finance of business management related discipline.
2. Knowledge and understanding of custodial operations in the Northern Territory and understanding of the requirements and
limitations of working within a complex secure environment.
3. Knowledge of accrual accounting, performance reporting and a thorough understanding of strategic and business planning
processes including financial forecasting.
