We are currently seeking a highly experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to perform efficient and effective maintenance, servicing, and repair of heavy vehicles, machinery and mechanical equipment to industry standards, ensuring optimal operational reliability and safety compliance for our client. Commencing in January 2026, this role is ideal for any candidate looking to join a nationally recognised transport company who will support future development and career progression.

* Monday to Friday 6.00am-2.30pm
* Cairns location
* $47.88 per hour base perm rate, plus OT
Duties and Responsibilities
* Maintenance & Repair: Conduct routine servicing, inspections, and complex mechanical/electrical repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and other heavy equipment components (e.g., excavators, loaders, trucks).
* Diagnostics: Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic faults using diagnostic tools and equipment.
* Workshop Operations: Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment, manage tools, and order parts as needed.
* Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to all Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) regulations, use PPE, complete risk assessments (Take 5s, SWMS), and follow Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
* Documentation: Accurately record all maintenance, repairs, and history in service logs and reports.
* Breakdown Support: Respond to breakdowns, potentially including after-hours call-outs.
Skills and Qualifications
* Relevant trade qualification (e.g., Certificate III in Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology) or equivalent experience.
* Proven experience with heavy diesel engines, hydraulics, electronics, and maintenance of diverse plant/truck fleets.
* Proficiency with diagnostic computers, specialised workshop equipment, welding/fabrication.
* Strong analytical skills for diagnosing complex issues.
* Good written and verbal skills for reporting and teamwork.
