The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving sustainable growth across Australia by acquiring new member organizations and expanding the reach of the association's professional training portfolio.
This is a consultative, needs-led sales role. You will not be selling a transactional product; instead, you will position the organization's membership and competency programs as vital, value-driven solutions for businesses operating in technically complex and safety-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Strategic Member Acquisition
* Identify and convert prospective member organizations across the Australian region.
* Conduct structured discovery meetings to understand a prospect's risk exposure, compliance challenges, and skills gaps.
* Position professional accreditation as a solution to core organizational pain points rather than a discretionary purchase.
* Training & Competency Growth
* Identify training needs within newly onboarded and existing accounts.
* Promote a diverse portfolio of technical training, including bespoke in-company programs and regionally delivered courses.
* Work with technical specialists to ensure training solutions are aligned with the operational realities of the client.
* Consultative Solution Selling
* Act as a trusted advisor, applying a structured sales approach grounded in risk identification and value-based solutions.
* Tailor proposals to the specific size, sector, and risk profile of each organization.
* Manage complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles.
* Prospecting & Pipeline Management
* Execute proactive outbound activity (expected 70% outbound / 30% inbound split).
* Maintain a rigorous and accurate sales pipeline using a modern CRM platform.
* Provide disciplined and accurate forecasting to the Head of Business Development.
* Industry Representation
* Represent the association at major industrial exhibitions, technical forums, and networking events.
* Use events as a platform for lead generation and relationship building.
Requirements
* B2B Consultative Sales: Proven track record in business development, specifically selling services, memberships, or intangible solutions rather than hardware.
* Discovery Skills: High-level capability in needs analysis and engaging senior decision-makers in complex organizations.
* Remote Efficiency: Highly self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a home-based environment.
* Travel: Willingness to travel regularly across the region to meet with stakeholders.
