Audit Risk & Improvement Committee - Independent Member
Maitland City Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from qualified and experienced persons to appoint as an Independent Member of Council's Audit Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) commencing from 1 July 2026.
About The Opportunity
The purpose of ARIC is to act as an advisory to Council providing independent assurance, oversight and assistance to Council in the areas of risk, control, improvements, governance, financial reporting and performance.
The Committee comprises three independent external members (including the Chair) and one Councillor Member (non-voting).

About You
The successful candidate will exhibit exceptional communication and negotiation skills, independence of mind in deliberations, be astute to avoiding conflicts of interest, and refrain from acting as a representative of a particular area of the community or Council.
Selection Criteria
* Professional qualifications and/or knowledge and expertise such as accounting, legal, risk management, auditing, business or planning, to support the activities required of the ARIC Chair.
* Demonstrated understanding of the role of the ARIC, including both internal and external audit and their importance.
* Demonstrated understanding and knowledge/experience of Local Government, including corporate governance and how ISO 31000:2018 supports this process.
* Demonstrate current/prior experience on a similar role and/or committees.
Appointment Details
Appointment of members to the Committee will be for a term of up to four years. Committee members are required to be available to meet a minimum of five times per year at Maitland City Council's administration building. Independent members receive remuneration of $1,500 per meeting.
