Ginger Meg’s, one of Newcastle’s most vibrant and iconic Asian-inspired dining venues, is seeking a brilliant, highly skilled Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team. This role is ideal for a passionate culinary professional who thrives in creative, fast-paced environments and takes pride in delivering exceptional, flavour-driven dishes. Key Responsibilities: Culinary Execution Prepare, cook and present high-quality dishes across multiple sections, ensuring consistency in flavour, portioning and presentation. Execute menu items and specials with precision, maintaining Ginger Meg’s contemporary Asian-inspired style. Apply advanced cooking techniques and strong attention to detail in all stages of food preparation. Kitchen Operations Assist in managing daily kitchen operations including stock rotation, ordering, inventory, and monitoring of food costs. Follow established recipes and contribute to maintaining consistency across shifts and service periods. Ensure all kitchen equipment is used safely, properly maintained and any issues are reported promptly. Food Safety, Hygiene & Compliance Uphold the highest standards of food safety and hygiene in line with NSW Food Authority and venue standards. Maintain clean and organised food-prep areas, storage zones and workstations. Ensure correct labelling, temperature control and allergen management procedures are always followed. Teamwork & Leadership Support Work closely with the Head Chef and Sous Chef to ensure smooth service and strong communication. Support junior kitchen staff through guidance, training and positive teamwork. Contribute to a collaborative, respectful kitchen culture that values excellence and efficiency. Menu Development & Creativity Provide input into new dishes, seasonal specials and menu innovation. Keep up with modern culinary trends—particularly in contemporary Asian cuisine—to enhance the guest dining experience. About You Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent). Proven experience in a high-volume, high-quality restaurant—Asian-fusion experience highly regarded. Strong knife skills, advanced culinary techniques and passion for flavour-driven cooking. Ability to thrive under pressure and deliver consistent results during peak service.
