We’re looking for a Roto / Paint Lead who thrives on detail, leads with clarity, and understands that clean plates are the invisible backbone of exceptional VFX.
The Opportunity
As a Roto / Paint Lead, you’ll combine artistic judgment with technical expertise to deliver high-quality roto, paint, and cleanup work across multiple productions.
You’ll lead workflows across shows, support compositing and downstream departments, and ensure every matte, patch, and paint fix meets the highest standards of accuracy, realism, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
This is both a hands-on and leadership role – ideal for someone who enjoys crafting complex shots while mentoring and guiding a team.
What You’ll Do
* Create, track, and refine complex roto shapes and mattes using Silhouette and Nuke
* Deliver production-ready roto for Compositing and foreground mattes for Animation & CG
* Perform advanced rig removal, wire removal, paint fixes, and plate clean-up
* Reconstruct textures and surfaces while preserving lighting continuity and grain integrity
* Build clean plates, digital beauty work, and seamless patches
* Apply grain matching, colour correction, stabilisation, distortion, and tracking
* Execute 2D tracking, 3D camera projections, and matte extraction
* Composite roto, plate, and colour-correction nodes for clear roto check reviews
* Handle complex shots: heavy motion blur, defocus, hair/fur, fine detail, layered interactions
* Maintain strong drawing/tracing accuracy with exceptional attention to detail
* Lead roto/paint workflows across multiple shows
* Review artist work and provide clear, constructive feedback
* Assign tasks and balance workloads to meet delivery schedules
* Support onboarding and training of new artists
* Create clear briefs, documentation, and reference materials
* Contribute to bidding and day estimates with Production
* Identify risks, efficiencies, and workflow improvements
* Test and help roll out new tools and techniques
* Ensure adherence to Fin pipeline, naming conventions, templates, and security standards
Skill & Experience
What You BringExperience
* Minimum 3+ years senior-level experience in feature film or high-end VFX roto/paint
* Advanced proficiency in Silhouette and Nuke
* Proven experience handling complex, detail-heavy shots
* Strong understanding of photographic realism and visual continuity
Technical Skillset
* Spline-based roto
* Shape creation, editing & animation (manual and tracker-based)
* Shape compositing, fill modes, opacity & overlays
* Plate clean-up, wire/rig removal
* Grain matching & colour correction
* Plate reconstruction
* 2D & 3D tracking, stabilisation & projections
