Occupational Therapist

Offer description

Ahoy new friend! đź‘‹đź‘‹

Are you nearing the end of your Occupational Therapy degree and starting to think about where to work next year? Could it be with us? Or, are you an experienced Peadiatric Occupational Therapist looking for a change?

We’re on the lookout for a new Occupational Therapist to join us in providing the best evidence based therapy to children in Canberra to start in late 2025/early 2026. We are a fast growing clinic and we’re on the hunt for a fun, energetic and adaptable new friend to join our team!

We could be a good fit if you looking for a team who is:

- Fun and Young - I have no doubt that Katiee and Lauren will recruit you to 'Pub Fridays' on your first day

- Supportive - Mistakes are embraced! The reality is you can't learn without them

- Evidence based focus - we're not into trial-and-error therapy interventions, we want to know the 'why' behind it.

- Committed to professional development and ongoing learning - we like to attend courses and learn new things - can't be doing the same thing day in, day out .. it gets boring!

About Our Clinic 📢

We are on a mission to raise the bar of Paediatric Therapy in Canberra. With the changes coming to the NDIS and the demand for high quality OT only increasing, we are making changes to the way we implement therapy to ensure that all the children we see are getting high quality care that leads to measurable results.

We have seen too many children participate in years of ongoing weekly or fortnightly therapy and have seen too many therapists get burnt out with the same caseload week in, week out. We provide our therapists with a varied caseload (with varied ages and varied diagnoses) to ensure our clinicians are constantly given opportunities to develop their skills.

Most of our appointments are clinic based, although we do some school or home visits from time to time. We've significantly reduced our school visits this year as we've endured too many small/loud/non-optimal therapy spaces that aren’t conducive to reaching a child’s therapy goals.

We are searching for a passionate Occupational Therapist who shares our excitement for clinically reasoned and holistic patient care to take on a diverse case load of children with disability, developmental delay and continence concerns.

Full training and support for the role will be provided. Both Established OTs and new graduate OT’s are encouraged to apply for the role, although we're very much on the hunt for a passionate New Grad (someone looking to develop their career and keen to learn new things!)

🎯 About the Role

This is no cookie-cutter Occupational Therapy job. You’ll work closely with our existing team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Allied Health Assistants. In addition to our super OT, Liam, we also have another OT friend starting with us next year, so you won't be the only one who is getting to know where everything is!

You will be:

- Assessing infants and children aged 0-16 with developmental delay, disability, continence concerns, fine motor concerns, social and emotional skill delay, sensory processing delays.

- Creating treatment plans based on assessment findings and parent goals to best support the child

- Liaising with Allied Health Assistants to implement therapy plans to better support children.

- Working collaboratively with physiotherapists internally, and other external therapists to provide collaborative therapy interventions to best support the child. We often work closely with feeding speech therapists and dieticians/nutritionists specifically.

- Developing Groups and Programs to support children to develop social and play skills

- Attending regular professional development courses, team training and weekly 1:1 mentoring to develop your skillset in whichever area brings you joy! Whilst we do try to give all our therapists a varied caseload, we are very supportive of therapists developing a niche and building their clinical skills in a specific area.

✨ You’ll Love This If You:

- Are comfortable communicating with children and families, can navigate upfront and sometimes tricky conversations.

- Are adaptable in your approach allowing you to pivot when therapy sessions don’t go to plan

- Want a job that values life balance, education and career progression

- Are eager to grow your clinical skills and develop a caseload that suits your niche interest areas

- Are proactive, reliable, and just… fun to work with

- Experience in a similar role is great but not essential — if you’re keen to learn and good with people, we’ll get back you.

🚀 What’s In It For You?

- Anything from 25-38 hours per week

- We wear activewear to work everyday - comfort, yes please!

- We have a coffee break every morning at 9am - we're better people after coffee!

- Our team have their lunchbreak scheduled at the same time (none of that work through lunch business)

- Leadership pathways and structured career development – we schedule it in, so it actually happens!

- We have scheduled admin time to ensure work stays in work time.

- Be part of a supportive, down-to-earth team

- Make the role your own and grow with the business

To Apply 👯‍♀️🕺

We know applying for a new job can be scary - after all, everyone knows everyone in Canberra. Rest assured, we will be keeping all applications strictly confidential! We also know that sometimes you can start at a workplace that just isn't a good fit - we won't judge if you've only been in your current role for a couple of months! If you have any questions about our workplace or the role, please don't hesitate to reach out! We also welcome applicants to come into our clinic and shadow a day in the life to ensure we are a good fit!

Please note: We are only able to accept applications from therapists able to obtain an AHPRA registration. We are not looking to work with recruiters (so please don't contact us if you are from a recruitment agency... and definitely don't add us to a subscription newsletter).

đź“© To apply, send us your resume along with a brief cover letter to *****@canberrachildrensphysio.com.au telling us a bit about yourself, what drew you to this role, and why you think you'd be a great fit for the team.

Please reach out if you feel this could be the job for you as we are actively interviewing and looking to fill the role. The most important thing to us, is to find the right fit for our team and we can be flexible on start date for the right person.
