Commercial Lead – Welcome to Tech
Hobart, Tasmania | Technology + Law + Some Good Old-Fashioned Hustle
You didn't go to law school just to be chained to a photocopier, arguing about clauses no one reads in contracts no one understands. And you're not here to spend the next decade chasing billable hours in a windowless office.
You're ambitious and sharp.
What if you could actually use that legal or commercial brain of yours to help a real organisation make smart, strategic decisions about how it spends millions on technology?
And what if you could be mentored by someone who's been around the commercial tech block enough times to know what a good deal really looks like?
Here's the gig:
We're looking for a Commercial Lead – someone with a strong presence, a bit of mongrel, and ideally, a foundational knowledge of commercial contracts or law. Someone who's hungry to grow, curious about how tech works (you don't need to code), and serious about making a dent in the vendor landscape.
This role is all about:
* Managing commercial relationships across our tech portfolio – think Microsoft, AWS, IBM, and the usual suspects.
* Negotiating contracts like a boss (or learning how to).
* Understanding software licensing (we'll teach you, don't worry – it's like tax law but with fewer spreadsheets and more arguments).
* Helping the organisation avoid being financially rinsed by overpriced platforms and underperforming vendors.
* Learning how regulatory frameworks like CPS 230 shape tech risk, and how to make sure our vendors don't implode when something goes bang.
We're not expecting you to walk in knowing everything. We're offering a launchpad.
Who are you?
* Probably 1–5 years post-uni, maybe with a Law or Commerce degree, or somewhere in the commercial/legal trenches.
* You're smart. You're curious. You speak human and corporate.
* You can read contracts, understand risk, and not blink when a vendor bluffs.
* You want to learn the tech space – cloud, licensing, vendor risk, software asset management – all of it.
* You've got presence. You're not afraid to have hard conversations. And you can hold your own in a room full of senior stakeholders.
* Bonus points if you already know what an "enterprise agreement" is (double bonus if you've read one).
What's in it for you?
* Real mentoring from someone who knows their stuff (not just someone who forwards you PDFs).
* Exposure to the commercial engine behind major tech platforms.
* A strategic role in a business that values sharp minds, not just technical ones.
* The kind of experience that sets you up for leadership in either tech or commercial law.
* Hobart – live somewhere with a real commute (10 mins), a view that doesn't cost $2m, and actual clean air. Plus: whisky, mountains, and a local arts scene that punches above its weight.
This role isn't for the faint-hearted or the softly-spoken.
But if you're hungry, ambitious, and ready to trade billables for big-picture impact – we'd love to meet you.
