About Us

Western Sydney University is a modern, forward-thinking, research-led institution, ranked in the top two per cent of universities worldwide. We are committed to delivering excellence in teaching, research, and student experience, underpinned by our values of equity, sustainability and diversity.

Located in the heart of one of Australia's fastest-growing economic and cultural regions, Western is uniquely placed to work with industry, government, and community partners to address real-world challenges and generate meaningful impact.

About the Role

The School of Engineering is seeking an outstanding Associate Professor (Level D) in Electronic Engineering, with a strong research background in Semiconductors, Microelectronics or a closely related field. This position will play a key leadership role in progressing the School's strategic initiatives, strengthening our research profile, and driving innovation across teaching, curriculum development, and industry engagement.

You will contribute significantly to the School's research excellence through high-impact publications, competitive research funding, and collaborative industry partnerships. You will also provide academic leadership, contribute to governance and strategic planning, and support the School's commitment to delivering high-quality, student-centred learning experiences.

You will provide strong academic leadership across the School and Faculty, contributing to governance, strengthening industry and external partnerships, and driving initiatives that build research capacity. You will maintain a nationally recognised research profile in Electronic Engineering, ideally in Semiconductors or Microelectronics, through high-quality publications, competitive funding, and the mentoring of early and mid-career researchers.

The role includes teaching and developing programs across Electrical and Electronic Engineering, leading curriculum innovation, and supporting the progression of students into honours and higher degree research pathways while supervising HDR and Honours candidates to successful completion. You will ensure programs and learning resources remain contemporary and industry-aligned, contribute to effective communication and engagement with stakeholders, and actively participate in administration, professional development, and the mentoring of junior staff, while supporting the School's operational and governance activities.

About You

We are seeking an accomplished academic with a PhD in Electronic Engineering or a closely related field, recognised nationally or internationally for outstanding scholarly and professional achievements in areas such as semiconductor technology, microelectronics, or related disciplines. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to secure competitive research funding, particularly in semiconductor fabrication, edge processing, or microelectronics, and demonstrated leadership experience within multidisciplinary teams. You will bring a strong record of supervising research students and extensive teaching experience across key areas including digital and analogue electronics, semiconductor devices, control systems, mechatronics, and power electronics.

Working at Western

At Western Sydney University, you will be part of a vibrant, supportive, and inclusive community committed to making a positive impact in Greater Western Sydney and beyond. We offer:

* A competitive remuneration package
* Opportunities for professional development
* A collegial, research-active School with strong industry connections
* Access to world-class facilities and emerging technologies
