Part-time - 3 or 4 Days per week (22.8 or 30.4hrs per week)

Location: Eagleby, Yarrabilba and Logan

The Australian Institute of Play is a not-for-profit which operates in Logan, and amplify child's voice regarding their play. We advocate for children’s right to play, and influence conditions and opportunities for play.

AIP is seeking an Assistant Manager to support our leading Playwork efforts, provision of Adventure Playgrounds and Neighbourhood Backyard in Eagleby, Yarrabilba & other possible sites in Logan Queensland. A neighbourhood backyard is an adventure play space / loose parts public space where children and their families can come to access a shared area to play and connect.

The Assistant Manager will coordinate the AIP Playwork Team and will have experience in Team management and HR processes, as well as ability to deliver and oversee the maintenance of AIP loose parts play spaces.

The Assistant Manager will be expected to engage with children, families, education staff, community stakeholders and other AIP staff efficiently. They will ensure the space is in-line with Playwork Practices, to ensure children have access to high-quality child-led play. The Assistant Manager will also be responsible for overseeing regular maintenance of the space as well as collecting and sharing data inline with AIP requirements. They will also be able to work independently and be responsible for upholding AIP Policies and Procedures.

Preference for this position will be given to people who live locally, with local knowledge. Also to those who have Play and Playwork qualifications and experience, and a sound understanding of the essential role of play in supporting children's healthy development

Qualifications

Educational and Experience

- Working with Children Blue Card required
- First Aid and CPR required
- Open Drivers license
- Relevant tertiary experience favourable
- Previous experience working with children favourable
- Previous experience in a similar role favourable
- Admin
- Team management
- HR experience
- Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with other Playworkers.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Previous Playworker experience or the willingness to commit to continual learning of concepts, theory and practice.

Job Responsibilities

Key Areas & Tasks:

- Staff Management – Organise, lead and support AIP Staff including contract management, rostering & regular team meetings and fostering a supportive and cooperative environment. Coordinate professional leadership and development to staff. Maintain relevant policies and procedures. Support, where necessary, multiple play sessions each week, with the potential of organising and supporting multiple special events over the course of the year. Conduct dynamic risk assessments and safety sweeps. Support and oversee staff to ensure the Neighbourhood Backyard is being maintained (in line with Playwork Practice). Catalogue and replenish resources regularly (Loose Parts, First Aid, perishables, etc.). Able to, or willing to learn to drive work vehicle with a trailer.
- Interpersonal skills – Engage with children and families in respectful and meaningful ways. Develop and maintain excellent professional relationships with key stakeholders, including school, families, community services and others. Have knowledge of culturally safe practices and be able to implement them.
- Communication and reporting – Record and report data inline with AIP processes. Assist in preparing reports for external stakeholders and partners when requested. Have sufficient skills with Microsoft Word and Excel. Able to coordinate and update social media communications
- ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The availability to work extra flexible hours as the arise, including weekends, evenings and holidays. The ability to work on additional AIP tasks and projects including at other neighbourhood backyard sites within the area.
