Operations Manager – Part Time

Canberra Ultimate is seeking to employ a part-time Operations Manager to provide services in Canberra for Ultimate Disc. Applications close on Friday 16 January 2026.

Who We Are: Canberra Ultimate (CU) is the peak body for the sport of Ultimate Disc in the Australian Capital Territory. We presently have approximately 1,000 members and see opportunities for short and long-term growth. We are looking to employ a part-time Operations Manager (2-3 days per week) to take over the operational aspects of CU's responsibilities and empower the CU board to focus on its strategic responsibilities. These responsibilities include delivering and growing the ACT's leagues, tournaments, and player development programs, as well as providing support to the Board for administration and marketing activities.

About the Role: Reporting directly to the CU Board, the Operations Manager will oversee CU's volunteer cohort to ensure operational management, administration and reporting requirements are met for our leagues, tournaments, and other relevant programs. In addition to oversight and quality assurance, the Operations Manager will be able to contribute to growing the player base for Ultimate in the ACT and surrounds by expanding existing offerings and promoting new programs. Only candidates who are based in the ACT and surrounds, or who are willing to relocate to the ACT at their own expense will be considered.

Hours and Remuneration: The role is being offered as part-time on an ongoing basis. The position will require reasonable availability to attend evening and weekend activities when required. Renumeration is negotiable depending on skills and experience, but the successful applicant will be employed under the Sporting Organisations Award, and we are seeking to hire someone at a grade 6 administrative level ("The employee is responsible and accountable for their own work and may have responsibility for the work of a section or unit. The employee exercises initiative, discretion and judgment within the range of their skills and knowledge. Supervision is by means of reporting to more senior staff as required."). The expected salary will be a full-time equivalent of $76,000 per annum plus superannuation, i.e. a successful candidate working in the role for two days per week could expect a salary of $30,400 p.a. plus super, or $45,600 for 3 days per week.

Duties and Reporting: Specific duties are negotiable and may change over time, but are envisaged to include:

1. Overseeing volunteer league and tournament directors to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality playing experiences, including advising the CU Board on the appointment of volunteer directors when needed.

2. Performing administrative and marketing tasks to prepare for and promote leagues and tournaments and assisting with relevant grant applications as directed by the CU Board.

3. Providing regular reports to the CU Board on operational matters, including how leagues and tournaments are operating and attending Board meetings as required.

4. Advising the CU Board on opportunities to improve league or tournament operations, such as improving quality, accessibility, or participation rates, and supporting implementation of operational improvements.

5. Advising on and providing operational support to new and existing player recruitment activities and development programs, with particular focus on programs which:

a. Attract new players to the sport and teach fundamental skills

b. Provide development pathways for youth and junior players

c. Uplift capabilities of the CU volunteer base such as through delivering training or accreditation

1. Supporting the leadership of the CU Board, including ad hoc duties as needed.

Selection Criteria: applicants should address the following required selection criteria:

1. Ability to work independently and flexibly.

2. Well organised, detail-oriented and demonstrated ability to work to regular deadlines.

3. Previous experience in governance of sporting or community organisations, including working for and managing volunteers.

4. Demonstrated experience in engaging with government, community, and national sporting stakeholders.

5. Demonstrated strong oral and written communication and skills.

6. Demonstrated knowledge, experience or qualifications in sport or program management.

Applicants may also address any of the following desirable selection criteria:

1. Demonstrated experience securing and acquitting grants.

2. An understanding of Ultimate Disc as both a sport and a community.

3. An understanding of community sport in the ACT.

4. Positive and enthusiastic with a passion for bringing more people into our sport.

Applicants will be expected to provide their own workspace (e.g. home office), hold a valid driver's licence and have access to a vehicle. A current Working with Vulnerable People card will be required before appointment.
