About The Role

This is a permanent, full-time role located in Wagga Wagga.

As a Senior Peer Worker, you will not only use your own life experience of mental health and personal recovery to support consumers, but you will also support the peer worker team as a role model and mentor. The Senior Peer Worker works collaboratively with the other members of the team and external services to maximise care outcomes for consumers. They will also support community engagement activities.

Duties

Provide open and effective support to people accessing or considering connection to GPH mental health servicesUse your own lived experience of mental health challenges to support people accessing the program with their own lived experience of the sameSupport the peer worker team as a role model and mentorContribute the consumer voice and advocate on their behalf to the multidisciplinary team and managers

Skills & Experience

Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer WorkMinimum of 2 years’ experience in a Peer Worker roleDirect lived experience of life changing mental health challenges and/or mental health service use as well as periods of healing and personal recoveryCommitment to safely and purposely share lived experience to engender hope and support others on their personal recovery journeyDemonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment, and lead and guide staff through influenceAbility to utilise interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective and mutual relationships with consumersThorough understanding of the importance of personal and professional boundaries, ethical behaviour, policies, and proceduresDemonstrated ability to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team environment, inclusive of clinicians, managers and other health professionalsDemonstrated effective written, verbal and computer literacy skillsCurrent drivers’ licence and willingness to travel as part of the role and flexibility to work outside normal business hours
