The Pharmaceutical Services Section has both statutory and non-statutory responsibilities to promote the safe use of medicines within the ACT community. These responsibilities are outlined under the Medicines, Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act 2008 and the Public Health Act 1997. The section regulates the prescribing and supply of controlled medicines in the ACT to minimise the risks associated with their abuse, misuse, and diversion. This includes assessing applications from prescribers for approval to prescribe controlled medicines and monitoring supplies from pharmacies. Position Overview Reporting to the ACT Chief Pharmacist, Director, Real-time Prescription Monitoring will provide leadership to successfully deliver Canberra’s real-time prescriptions monitoring (RTPM) project – Canberra Script. The role involves managing all aspects of the project including significant engagement with a range of internal and external stakeholders. These include but are not limited to closely working with colleagues across the ACT Health and Community Services Directorate (ACT HCSD), Commonwealth and jurisdictional departments and agencies, the software vendor and health professionals. The Project Director manages all financial and reporting aspects of the project including budgeting and capital financing, timely reporting of quarterly forecasts, managing project capital expenditure funding budgets, procurement activities and responding to inquiries related to project capital funding. This position manages project risks and governance by regularly assessing and identifying risks, managing and updating risk profiles and risk registers whilst implementing project governance. The Project Director manages the Canberra Script project team to ensure project deliverables remain on track. The position works with the Deputy Chief Pharmacist to facilitate the smooth transition of tasks from Canberra Script project activities to business-as-usual operational and regulatory activities. The Project Director must have strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to draft and implement policies and procedures, and confidence in building a small, high-performing team in a hybrid environment. Eligibility/Other requirements: Strong understanding of controlled medicine regulations, with experience transitioning regulatory activities from capital-funded projects to Business as Usual (BAU) operations. Skilled in supporting prescribers, pharmacists, and regulatory teams, and in using clinical systems and pharmacy software to generate business intelligence for targeted regulatory action. Demonstrated knowledge of medicines and their use within a healthcare setting, experience with pharmacy dispensing and/or prescribing software, or health clinical information systems providing business intelligence to plan and executive targeted regulatory activities Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Australian Digital Health Agency change management and workorder processes. Demonstrated experience ICT project management within healthcare organisations, delivering complex technology solutions that enhance business efficiency, while meeting scope, timeframes, and budget. Strong understanding of software design and development, with practical knowledge of ICT methodologies.
