Job Description

Maintenance Planner position available to join our SQS teams with potential assignment across NSW, QLD, SA, VIC, or WA Southern Steel Group and its subsidiaries specialise in providing the finest steel products, sheet & coil, and expert steel processing and distribution. The ability to carry out work with minimal supervision, a keen and enthusiastic approach to your work and willingness to work over time will help you ensure success in this role. MAIN OBJECTIVE

The Maintenance Planner a vital dual role at WA Cutting Services. This position is responsible for the safe, cost-effective, and proactive maintenance of all machines, tools, equipment, and site facilities, while also operating CNC profiling machinery to support daily production. DUTIES

Maintain all workshop machines, tools, and equipment in line with a preventative maintenance schedule. Respond promptly to day-to-day hazards, safety issues, and actions raised through internal audits or safety committee meetings. Ensure condemned or unsafe equipment is removed from service.

Monitor and order spare parts, workshop consumables and PPE. Maintain equipment registers and perform quarterly audits. Coordinate the servicing and upkeep of company vehicles, forklifts, diesel generator and other site infrastructure.

Perform building maintenance, including solar systems, water systems, lighting, air compressors, and general site improvements. Supervise waste management procedures (including oil spills, steel scrap, general waste, and drum emptying). Maintain compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

CNC Machine Operation. Operate CNC profiling equipment to maximise efficiency and material usage. Complete all production documentation accurately and on time.

Ensure clear marking and identification of all cut items; store remnants properly. Perform daily pre-start checks and routine maintenance on machinery. Report any faults, damage, or maintenance needs immediately.

Operate cranes and lifting equipment in accordance with SOPs and safety requirements. Sign off on job inspections and uphold quality control processes. All employees are subject to legal obligations regarding their own and their fellow workers Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S).

They are to fully co-operate with the company OH&S Policy and Program, to ensure safety in the workplace is maintained. All employees shall undertake hazard identification as part of their normal duties, and report any unsafe conditions or work practices. All employees are responsible for their own safety as well as those around them.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED Proven experience maintaining workshop machinery and equipment Knowledge of mechanical systems; some electrical and instrument troubleshooting ability

Previous experience operating CNC equipment (plasma and oxy cutting highly desirable) Ability to read and interpret basic engineering drawings Sound knowledge of workshop tools, equipment, and materials (particularly steel)

Strong documentation and computer skills for maintenance tracking and reporting Forklift licence and overhead crane operation training preferred Able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
