We invite applications for a funded PhD Studentship to enhance weed control in northern Australia's livestock sector to improve both productivity and ecological integrity in grazing areas.
Project Overview: Join our dynamic team to strengthen weed control in northern Australia's livestock sector. This project focuses on developing decision-support frameworks for managing two high-impact invasive species: Chinee Apple (Ziziphus mauritiana) and Rubber Vine (Cryptostegia grandiflora). These species pose significant threats to both productivity and ecological integrity.
Your key duties and tasks:
* Conduct field and lab work in the Southern Cape York Rangelands along with access to lab work in Central and Southern Queensland, alongside modelling activities based in Melbourne.
* Investigate seed transportation vectors, including native wildlife, wind, and hydrological processes.
* Develop mechanistic models informed by field and lab-collected data.
* Work with ecologists at Consolidated Pastoral Company (CPC), Queensland Department of Primary Industries, and Natural Resource Management organisations.
What you will need:
* Research and analytical skills
* Knowledge of weed science and agronomy
* Technical skills (proficiency in using laboratory and field equipment)
* Proven strong organisational and time management skills (ability to plan, prioritise and meet deadlines).
* Multi-stakeholder collaboration (work effectively in a multidisciplinary team)
* Current and valid Australian drivers licence
