About the Opportunity
The Transport Driver is responsible for providing transport services to Cape York clients when in Cairns for health-related matters. The Transport Driver will provide transport services to assist clients to improve access to specialist services and accommodation during their stay in Cairns. This position is part time, permanent - working 20 hours per week.
There is a genuine occupational requirement under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), for this position to be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. The position is therefore only open to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants.
About You
To be successful in this role you must have:
* Good level of communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with a range of staff and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
* Licensed, experienced passenger transport vehicle operator with safe driving record.
* Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team with a professional outlook.
* Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York.
* Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs.
* Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community control.
* Must be willing and have the ability to travel in Cape York either by light aircraft or 4WD as required.
Mandatory Requirements:
* Current Queensland Drivers Licence.
* Australian Federal Police Check, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement
* Current Blue Card positive notice or exemption, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement
* Must be eligible to undertake and obtain a "Driver Authorisation" and "Driver Medical Certificate" as per the Department of Transport and Main Roads Qld requirements.
