THE ROLE
The General Counsel ensures the delivery of legal services across the Commission and the Disability Worker Registration Board of Victoria (the Board) in relation to regulatory and operational matters under the Disability Service Safeguards Act 2018 (Vic), which underpin all aspects of the Disability Worker Regulation Scheme (the Scheme). The General Counsel reports to the Director Scheme Performance and works closely with the Commissioner, the Director Regulatory Operations, and the Commission's leadership team.
This role includes providing expert and timely advice on highly complex and sensitive legal matters and supporting the Commission in areas such as freedom of information, privacy, complaints, corporate and regulatory delegations, and associated policies and procedures.
The General Counsel is responsible for managing and leading a small team of specialists, including mentoring, supervising, facilitating learning and development, and managing performance to achieve effective results, drive change, and identify opportunities for improvement.
Accountabilities Include
* Provide leadership and guidance on a broad range of legal matters to senior stakeholders by developing briefs on highly complex issues and devising strategies for managing complex legal proceedings.
* Provide expert legal advice on policy and commercial matters related to designated contracts, including reviewing, preparing, or outsourcing commercial and contractual terms and conditions for contracts, subcontracts and other instruments.
* Provide expert legal advice and guidance on regulatory activities, including complaints, notifications, investigations and worker registration.
Eligibility
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or hold a valid work permit or visa. Work eligibility will be checked as part of the recruitment process. Preferred candidates will be required to complete pre‐employment screening, including a national police check and misconduct screening.
