About the role
As Paralegal Tenancy Advocate, you will provide legal advice and assistance to clients facing housing issues. This role involves case preparation, court representation, and advocating for systemic change to improve housing outcomes in the Kimberley.
Responsibilities
* Provide information, advocacy, support, negotiation, options and appropriate referrals to clients with residential tenancy issues.
* Act as client liaison and support between solicitors, clients and departments, as part of a holistic and client-focused service.
* Assist in drafting and preparing legal documents and correspondence including conflict checks and referrals.
* Manage client files, databases and intake sheets.
* Coordinate diaries, appointments and meetings for solicitors.
* Assist in the organisation of events and programs across services including outreach to remote locations if required.
* Deliver community education programs alongside solicitors and other KCLS staff.
* Engage in professional development activities to maintain and enhance the knowledge and skills required to fulfil the responsibilities of the position.
We are searching for those who can meet most of the following selection criteria:
* Demonstrated computer and secretarial/administration experience in frontline client services, maintaining records in a confidential and sensitive manner.
* Highly developed written and interpersonal communication skills, engaging effectively with a diverse range of people, groups, and organisations including Aboriginal communities.
* Sound organisational skills with the ability to manage workload, competing demands, and meeting deadlines.
* Ability to work effectively independently and collaborate as part of a team.
* Understanding and commitment to principles of social justice and ability to working effectively with Aboriginal people.
* Personal resilience, adaptability and ability to meet the challenges of remote service delivery and difficult clients.
* Current driver's license valid for use in WA.
Further desirable criteria:
* Openness to new learning adventures.
* Experience in a community legal practice setting and/or community-based organisation in remote and rural Australia.
Successful applicants will need to provide references, a recent WA Police Clearance, current Working with Children's Check, and their working rights in Australia.
