Naval Architect/Structural Engineer
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Naval Architect/Structural Engineer to join our team. As a key member of the Minor Vessels Engineering Team, you will play a vital role in supporting the Design and Engineering Change Team.
The successful candidate will have experience in conducting structural discipline activities, including involvement in system engineering practices such as requirements development, engineering design, design integration, verification and validation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Act as the technical interface between stakeholders to derive functional performance and interface requirements to meet structural requirements.
* Plan and lead assigned engineering projects from concept through to detailed design review, including EC scoping (SOWs, RFQs, BOEs, schedules and engagement with stakeholders).
* Demonstrated experience gained in developing platform engineering changes, participation in design reviews, undertaking typical design analysis and implementation of solutions, their integration, verification and validation.
* Engage in structural and ship design shock and vibration dockings, trim and stability, hydrostatics and naval outfitting (structural closures, fire protection, deck arrangements and equipment ladders/platforms, cargo handling systems and equipment foundation).
* Perform technical risk analysis to support the development and review of hazard logs, safety case arguments and risk mitigation actions in accordance with the Defence Seaworthiness Management System and the Navy Safety Management System.
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders; securing a trusted partner reputation in delivering systems integration and mission support solutions to customers.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Tertiary qualification in Naval Architecture or Structural Engineering and professional development sufficient to attain recognition as CPEng with Engineers Australia in a relevant engineering stream, including ability to attain RPEQ recognition.
* Minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience (when a University Degree is held).
* Experience in conducting structural discipline activities, including involvement in one or more of the following System Engineering practices - Requirements Development, Engineering Design, Design Integration, Verification and Validation.
* Develop and review of engineering documentation, such as structural calculations, docking calculations, stability calculations, work instructions, test procedures and engineering reports.
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders at client, peer, supplier and senior leadership levels.
* Experience in ship structural design and sustainment, and its application to local structure and foundations.
* Knowledge of statutory regulations and Classification and Flag state rule sets.
* Experience using CAD and Finite Element Analysis programs.
* Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision-making skills.
* Ability to produce clear, well-written and well-presented reports to a high quality and standard.
