AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centres critical infrastructures, power and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You will collaborate with software, hardware, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to deliver the highest standards for safety, security and quality while providing large capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
We are looking for a dynamic Commissioning Engineer (CxE) to support the delivery of AWS Substations and Data Centres across APJC and globally. The role involves overseeing and coordinating multi‐discipline work related to pre‐commissioning and commissioning of critical infrastructure construction and special projects.
Key job responsibilities
* Oversee and coordinate multi‐discipline division of work related to pre‐commissioning and commissioning of Amazon critical infrastructure construction and special projects.
* Manage and support commissioning vendors, contractors and other teams involved in the construction and commissioning of various systems including high, medium and low voltage power systems, generators, UPS, HVAC, chilled water, BMS and EPMS.
* Provide multi‐discipline input into scheduling, designing and planning of project execution and innovation projects.
* Review all multi‐discipline integrated systems testing and commissioning documents to ensure compliance with design specifications, project specifications and standards.
* Travel to sites located in-country, across APJC and globally up to 20% of the time.
* Ensure all commissioning procedures follow the appropriate safety practices, policies and procedures and participate in all project and company safety programmes.
* Audit commissioning activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality and safety requirements.
* Report to the ACx Regional Manager and ensure test documents are created in accordance with all commissioning requirements.
* Provide weekly reporting of commissioning progress and metrics for assigned projects.
* Work in a high‐velocity environment on multiple strategic initiatives, continuous improvement projects and deliver projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Systems Analysis
* Understand the design concept and intent by reviewing mechanical and electrical construction documentation, including drawings, specifications, vendor submittals and sequences of operations.
* Provide recommendations and feedback regarding design, equipment selection, pre‐functional checklists, startup and functional test scripts developed by others, maintainability, construct‐ability and commission‐ability.
* Review documentation for compliance with Amazon standards, industry standards and design specifications.
* Assess the capability of commissioned systems to match the design and find opportunities for improvements.
Systems Validation
* Verify system performance, including establishing acceptance criteria, obtaining and reviewing completed reports, performing verification and validation.
* Validate in‐built documentation and review for accuracy and completeness.
* Communicate commissioning issues, questions and concerns through proper channels in a timely manner.
* Partner with internal and external teams to ensure commissioning regime has sufficient depth and breadth.
* Support commissioning audits.
Project Management
* Manage and execute commissioning of critical infrastructure to validate installation, operation and performance of mechanical, electrical and controls systems.
* Act as the point of contact for commissioning vendors' escalations, developing mitigation plans to unblock obstacles.
* Manage vendors via audits of deliverables and set expectations to work in accordance with Amazon requirements.
* Develop project schedules and plans, not limited to project deliveries, strategic initiatives and innovation projects.
* Represent ACx in projects coordination meetings with external vendors and contractors and internal stakeholders.
* Maintain quality of commissioning documentation.
* Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions and time zones.
Additional role requirements
* Ability and willingness to travel domestic and internationally for up to 25% of the time (typical travel is 10%).
* Required to work longer than eight hours in duration with potential for night and weekend work.
* Required to work in a construction environment with unfamiliar conditions requiring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
* Troubleshooting, including the use of handheld equipment.
* Must possess a valid driver's license and own vehicle due to site location.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
* Certification in a relevant technical field.
* Experience in commissioning.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submissions.
* Experience reading and editing construction documents (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications, etc.).
* 3+ years' experience in any one of the following areas: Commissioning; Electrical Design; Construction Project Management; Control System installation or maintenance.
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel and Outlook required.
