Are you a natural in the kitchen and passionate about creating meaningful connections in the community? Our client is looking for a motivated and experienced Kitchen Officer to join their vibrant team that is a welcoming hub for older community members in the heart of the city.
About the Role
Reporting to the Coordinator, you'll lead the delivery of our much-loved Dining Program – bringing people together through food, conversation and care. From daily operations to special events, you'll coordinate a team of volunteers and ensure the kitchen runs like clockwork.
Your Key Responsibilities
* Oversee the day-to-day kitchen operations and the Dining Program
* Lead and roster volunteer cooks, kitchen hands and waiting staff
* Develop seasonal menus in collaboration with volunteers
* Manage stock control, ordering and kitchen supplies
* Ensure a safe, clean and welcoming environment through WHS and Food Safety compliance
* Supervise catering for workshops, special events and programs
* Assist in food preparation and cooking as needed
* Support wider Positive Ageing Programs and foster inclusive participation for older people
* Use a community development approach to engage with centre users and volunteers
Leadership & Safety
* Coordinate and inspire a team of 4-5 volunteers
* Maintain a strong focus on Work Health and Safety (WHS)
* Ensure all training certifications (e.g., Food Safety, WHS) are up to date
* Promote a culture of care, respect and equity in all interactions
What You'll Need
* A Certificate-level qualification in kitchen management or community services
* Hands‑on experience in a kitchen or community setting
* Current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People
* Valid Driver Licence
* A strong understanding of WHS and Child Safety responsibilities
