Who will you be working with? RMS Mors Smitt, a Wabtec Company, is dedicated to the design, manufacture, and distribution of high-quality electrical engineering products. We design, manufacture, and distribute electromechanical relays for the power distribution industry, which generally comprise a circuit board controlling mechanical components. We export to 50+ countries and sell locally. The operation fits into the light industrial sector, dealing mainly with small components, with a mature supply base and product.
Where is the position located? This is an operational, hands-on role working as part of the Supply Chain team from Monday to Friday at our site office in Keysborough, Victoria.

The focus of the role will be to purchase inventory and factory consumables for the plant and some purchasing to satisfy direct customer orders for distributed products. The purpose of this role is not to purchase stock but to prevent the factory from running out of stock.
Supporting roles and responsibilities will focus on managing some of the tasks associated with purchasing and developing and maintaining current skills related to other roles within the department for contingency/backup.
We purchase both locally and overseas a wide variety of components including but not limited to: Engineered metal, plastic mouldings, electronic components, circuit boards & sub-contract board loading, relays & surge protection devices, power transformers, solenoids, wires, cables, wire wound resistors, hardware, etc.
What will your typical day look like? As a small team, you will also be required to undertake additional tasks to support the supply chain function.
Core Functions
* Manage purchasing based on plant priorities via the tools provided
* Expedite orders and follow up on order acknowledgements from suppliers
* Work with subcontract suppliers to coordinate required consignment materials
* Assist with goods receipting into the ERP system
* Update order in-transit status in the ERP system
* Update the ERP system with current supplier details and pricing
* Sourcing products via existing and new suppliers and providing comparative analysis
* Raise production jobs to manufacture finished goods to maintain minimum stock
* Arrange and manage outbound shipping requirements weekly or semi-regularly
* Reconcile credit card payments
* Administer incoming goods inspection
* Gather data and provide analysis for outsourcing projects
Supporting Functions
* Arrange and manage inbound freight
* Coordinate inventory counts & adjustments related to purchasing decisions
* Participate in stocktake counts, including counting, recounting, validating, analysis, and data entry
* Manage some supplier quality issues related to purchasing decisions
* Back up the Shipping Officer's role during absences
* Cross-train in other functions as backup, e.g., packing and warehouse functions
* Other tasks as required
What do we want to know about you?
* Relevant qualification in Procurement and Supply Chain
* Previous purchasing experience; experience with the types of products we purchase is desirable but not essential
* Manufacturing experience and understanding of Bills of Material is desirable
* Process-focused
* Experience with ERP/MRP systems and good computer skills
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills
* Initiative, organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize, multitask, work independently, and meet deadlines
