We're looking for an experienced Azure Cloud Engineer with a strong systems engineering foundation and deep Terraform experience to help design, build and operate secure, resilient and highly available cloud and hybrid platforms. This is a hands-on senior role where you'll have genuine ownership of Azure infrastructure, automation standards and platform reliability.
Day to day duties include:
* Design and operate Azure and hybrid infrastructure with a focus on security, resilience, availability and operational excellence.
* Build, manage and evolve cloud environments using Terraform as the primary infrastructure-as-code tool.
* Develop and maintain Terraform modules, standards and pipelines, ensuring consistency and governance across environments.
* Implement and support CI/CD for infrastructure, leveraging Terraform, Azure DevOps and Git.
* Support and modernise core systems engineering platforms, including: Windows Server and Linux, Azure IaaS and selected PaaS services, SQL Server (Azure Managed Instance and on-prem), VMware and hybrid virtualised environments and Enterprise networking (firewalls, routing, LAN/WAN, Azure connectivity)
* Proactively monitor platforms, identify risks or performance issues and implement preventative or automated solutions.
* Lead complex incident and problem resolution, performing root cause analysis and driving long-term improvements.
* Design and maintain backup, recovery and disaster recovery capabilities across cloud and on-prem environments.
* Embed security-by-design principles into cloud architecture, automation and day-to-day operations.
* Work with third-party vendors and service providers to deliver infrastructure changes and upgrades.
* Maintain clear, concise technical documentation covering architecture, automation and operational standards.
* Act as a senior technical escalation point and mentor within the engineering team.
Key Skills & Experience:
* Proven experience in a Senior Cloud Engineer or Senior Systems Engineer role within a complex environment.
* Strong, hands-on Terraform experience is essential, including: Writing and maintaining reusable modules, managing state and environments and integrating Terraform into CI/CD pipelines.
* Solid Azure experience across infrastructure, networking, identity and security.
* A strong systems engineering background (Windows, Linux, networking, virtualisation).
* Experience supporting hybrid environments and cloud migration or uplift initiatives.
* A security-focused mindset with experience operating reliable, compliant platforms.
* Strong troubleshooting, documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
