Are you a capable and confident professional looking to step into a leadership role that blends operational oversight, stakeholder engagement, and service improvement? We are seeking a motivated Assistant Director (SOG C) to join our small Self-Insurance team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the delivery and enhancement of workers compensation self-insurance services across the ACT Government. About the Role Reporting to the Director, Self-Insurance, the Assistant Director plays a key role in supporting the ACT Government’s workers’ compensation self-insurance arrangements. This includes managing procurement and government contracting, contributing to assurance frameworks, and providing high-level policy advice. The role also involves preparing ministerial and executive briefings, providing secretariat support for committees, managing customer complaints, and supporting stakeholder engagement. This is a temporary opportunity for 6 to 12 months, with a possibility of permanency. Key Responsibilities Support the management of strategic contracts and commercial arrangements with service providers, including performance monitoring and stakeholder coordination. Contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive assurance framework that promotes quality, best practice, and continuous improvement. Assist in the delivery of compensation and support schemes, including secretariat support for committees as required. Provide high-level policy advice on workers’ compensation insurance initiatives, governance, and prudential arrangements. Prepare ministerial reports, briefs, submissions, and other complex documents. Represent the ACT Government and the Work Safety Group in relevant forums. Participate in corporate initiatives and contribute to effective team management, including staff supervision where required. What We’re Looking For High-level written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive-level documents. Strong understanding of contract management, compliance, and assurance frameworks. Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and competing priorities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small, high-performing team. Commitment to ACTPS values, including respect, equity, diversity, and workplace safety. Eligibility/Other Requirements: Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience in contract management, compliance, insurance, or workers’ compensation are highly desirable. Note: This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of six months with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. How to Apply: Applicants are asked to provide a two (2) paged pitch that outlines their experience and expertise for the role against the Selection Criteria: A strong understanding or the ability to develop a strong understanding of contract negotiation and management including procurement of third-party providers; A strong understanding or the ability to develop a strong understanding of compliance, and prudential management activities involved in the delivery of a comprehensive assurance framework; Demonstrated competency to develop and manage complex policy projects, superior change management skills, as well as the ability to work effectively across multiple priorities, and adhere to strict deadlines in a high-pressure environment; Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a small team under limited supervision to develop and manage complex projects and work effectively across multiple priorities with competing deadlines using decision making and problem-solving skills; High level written and oral communication skills, including preparation and completion of briefs, correspondence, cabinet submissions and written reports as well as managing, building and maintaining stakeholder relationships; and Understanding of public service values covering ethical standards and a demonstrated self-awareness, professionalism and a proven commitment to the ongoing integration of workplace respect, equity and diversity work practices and workplace health and safety principles and practices.
