The Role

The ABC is looking for a reporter join the team in Western Queensland, based in South West Queensland. Journalists in this region deliver news for local and national ABC radio but also have time to develop the skills needed to film and present video stories for ABC 7PM news, News Channel and Landline as well as producing digital stories for Australia's most popular news website.
This is a unique opportunity for a highly autonomous reporter to set their own course and be part of the vibrant community of South West Queensland.
Many of the ABC's most successful reporters have cut their teeth in this part of the world. You will work under the direction of the Western Queensland Editor and will have access to some of the best editorial training in Australia.
Please note this is not an office based role, the successful applicant will work independently and remotely from any location in South West Queensland
The Job
* Create engaging multi-platform content for local and national audiences.
* Present news, interviews, and breaking stories across all platforms.
* Contribute to planning and commissioning to boost audience reach and engagement.
* Support the Local Emergency Coverage plan and liaise with stakeholders.
* Identify and share local stories for use across ABC platforms.
* Produce stories that reflect Australia's cultural and social diversity.
* This role attracts an Isolated Locations Allowance, shift penalties and leave loading as per the ABC Enterprise Agreement
Position Description:
About You
You have genuine curiosity of regional stories and will have a strong understanding of issues important to local audiences.
You'll have:
* Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience.
* Strong editorial skills with sound judgement and information analysis.
* Experience in live presentation and broadcasting.
* Understanding of local audience interests and issues.
* Passion for telling stories that reflect Australia's diversity and ability to build and maintain community contacts across Australia.
* Commitment to creating authentic, inclusive content representing diverse and Indigenous communities
* Possession of a current and valid driver's licence
