Primary objective
The Senior Teacher is the educational leader and manager of the English Humanities/Science faculty who plans, develops and
oversees the implementation of quality teaching and learning programs to cater for the diverse needs of students within the
faculty.
Context statement
Darwin High School is a large urban senior secondary school (Years in the Northern Territory and has the largest student
cohort across the Northern Territory (approx. 1200 students). The school has a reputation for academic excellence and caters
for a diverse student cohort and is an Independent Public School. The Senior Teacher works as part of the Leadership Team,
working closely with the Assistant Principal line manager and has primary oversight of a faculty. There are two available
positions1) English Humanities and 2) Science. Please indicate in your application which role you are applying for.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake teaching and leadership responsibilities of a large team in accordance with school and other relevant policies.
2. Ensure delivery of appropriate English Humanities/Science curriculum and adherence to assessment, recording and reporting
procedures in accordance with school, SACE Board, DET and other relevant policies.
3. Ensure effective student management procedures in accordance with school and other relevant policies.
4. Allocate students, staff and resources to optimise student learning outcomes for a diverse student cohort in collaboration
with colleagues.
5. Manage staffing, budgeting, WH & S and physical resources in accordance with DET and school policy and procedures.
6. Contribute to the school's Leadership Team in accordance with the school's strategic direction.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Significant, effective teaching experience in a senior secondary school environment.
2. Excellent understanding of senior secondary curriculum in English Humanities/Science programs.
3. Proven ability to work effectively with secondary school teachers, support staff, school administration and leadership, and
relevant bodies to provide high quality English Humanities/Science programs.
4. Proven ability to work effectively with colleagues, school administration, students and parents in the areas of student
management, wellbeing and behaviour management practices to maximise student engagement, retention and achievement
of the Northern Territory Certificate of Education.
1. Successful demonstration of the ability to lead a team to manage change and improve student outcomes in line with the
school's strategic direction.
1. Demonstrated high-level interpersonal, communication, team building, and conflict resolution, administrative and
organisational skills.
