Veterinary Orthopaedic and Soft Tissue Surgeon
Debenham Vets Surgical Referrals is expanding and we are on the lookout for like-minded surgeons to join our progressive surgical service team receiving referrals for the management of routine and complex orthopaedic, soft tissue, and spinal conditions from across East Anglia and beyond. Our core goal is to offer patient centric and accessible surgical treatment contextualised to the needs of the individual client and patient.
We have an ongoing program of investment in both surgical equipment and team development including clinical research whilst offering the highest standards of care. We enjoy a wide and varied surgical caseload in all aspects of small animal surgery, including advanced orthopaedic procedures such as total hip replacement through our specialist led THR service.
The clinic operates from a purpose-built surgical suite within an established primary and referral practice. Our two fully serviced theatres are pressure ventilated, equipped with mechanical patient ventilators, mobile anaesthetic units, electrosurgery units, compressed surgical air, suction units and digital screens for intraoperative image review. Diagnostics include an onsite Siemens 64-slice CT scanner, Agfa CR radiography, Esaote MyLab Omega ultrasound including MSK applications, Arthrex 4k UHD arthroscopy tower, and fully equipped laboratory. Our inventory of surgical equipment is purposefully large to allow flexibility for each cases and suit surgeon preferences. This includes, locking and non-locking plating options including polyaxial systems from 1.5mm up to 3.5mm sizes for arthrodesis, osteosynthesis and TPLO surgery; Biomedtrix Universal Total Hip Replacement system; Kyon PGR, Kyon PAUL II, Pedicle Screw Rod systems from 2.0-4.5mm, Linear ESF, Braun Acculan 4 power tools and Hall Surgairtome II..
The clinic is well supported by an experienced team of RVNs and we work closely with colleagues in our primary care service as well as anaesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, and physiotherapy with administrative support from dedicated referral coordinators and insurance administrators. The surgical service is supported by a visiting RCVS specialist who also currently leads our total hip replacement programme alongside a team of two full time surgeons, one of whom is now progressing on to an ECVS residency thereby opening the door for a new surgical colleague to join us.
The ideal candidates must be enthusiastic and able to integrate well into our team with similar ethos and values. We strive for high standards of clinical care at all times whilst fostering excellent professional relationships with clients and referring veterinarians. We want individuals with a strong desire to further their skillset and knowledge with our help and support, whatever level they are currently at in their career. Working collaboratively as part of a close surgical team is a must
We are currently looking to fill two positions. Both will offer packages including funded CPD with appropriate time off, workplace pension, support for research and publication, administrative support for report writing, VDS and MRCVS membership fees and membership to other appropriate professional bodies.
An experienced surgeon with post-graduate qualifications in surgery who has worked in a referral environment. The ideal candidate will ideally have wide experience with orthopaedic, spinal, and soft tissue case management however a particular bias can be accommodated. This is a permanent full-time role working 4-day weeks with a share in out of hours cover and we are offering a£80-100k annual salary DOE with an out of hours bonus scheme. Part time roles can be considered.
A veterinarian who is looking to move into a focussed role in surgical referrals without the expectation of wide experience. This role will have a focus on assisting surgical case management with supported primary case management. This role will ideally suit a more recently qualified veterinarian, ideally with a minimum two years of small animal practice experience, now looking to embark on a dedicated surgical career, an individual looking to complete a surgical certificate, or a potential stepping stone into further dedicated surgery roles. This will be a 12-month fixed contract (with the option to extend the role for the right candidate) and working 4-day weeks. We envisage offering a salary of £37-45k annual salary DOE.
We aim to encourage a healthy work life balance and the practice location in south Suffolk is ideal for exploring, walking, cycling, kayaking / paddle-boarding and generally getting back to nature whilst being within easy striking distance of the coast, Ipswich, Norwich and London.
Visits to the clinic are encouraged and can be arranged simply 'out of interest' or as part of a more specific extended interview process.
In the first instance, for an informal and confidential discussion, more information about the clinic or roles available, or to apply please email: bengarland@debenhamvets.co.uk
