About the Opportunity
Umwelt is working on an increasing number of exciting new projects in the biodiversity space, driven by WA’s shift towards renewable energy and the need to balance development with strategic conservation and offset outcomes. This growth presents great opportunities for passionate ecologists at all career stages, from early career to senior, who are looking to join a supportive team with a steady pipeline of work and diverse, meaningful projects.
We are looking for Field Ecologists at all levels who are ready to enhance their ecological consulting career working within our Perth ecology team. We seek candidates who have finished their studies and acquired some experience in conducting ecological field work and who are keen to travel and develop their technical skills in recognising vegetation and flora and surveying for specific species.
This role is field based, targeting surveys in spring and summer 2025/2026 in a range of locations throughout the WA. Permanent roles may be available following this period, pending business needs and experience.
About You:
We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Field Ecologists who meet the following criteria:
* A degree or postgraduate qualification (or in progress) in environmental science, botany, zoology, or a related field
* A strong desire to work flexible hours and travel for ecological fieldwork including possible trips of extended duration (one week or greater) in rural or remote regions
* Experience in undertaking ecological surveys and a demonstrated passion for flora and/or fauna
* Ability to work in a professional team as well as autonomously.
* Capability to effectively communicate with team members
* Experience in GIS and electronic data capture (preferred)
* Appreciation of the importance of WHS matters
