Senior Medical Officer - Hummingbird House
The Senior Medical Officer (SMO) provides specialist paediatric palliative medical care for children and families at Hummingbird House. Working closely with PPCS, the Nurse Practitioner Lead, and the multidisciplinary team, the SMO delivers safe, timely medical assessment and treatment tailored to each child and family.
The role supports coordinated transitions into and out of the hospice, assists with referral management including urgent and end‐of‐life cases and contributes to the on‐call roster to ensure continuous clinical coverage.
Key Responsibilities
* Supporting ongoing service improvement and advocating for paediatric palliative care.
* Participating in the Hummingbird House medical on‐call roster as required.
* Engaging patients and carers with compassion, ensuring shared understanding, informed consent, and supportive decision‐making.
* Attending MDT and relevant external meetings where possible.
* Participating in risk reviews and contributing to a safe clinical environment.
* Maintaining clear, accurate, and comprehensive medical documentation.

What We're Looking For
* Advanced paediatric resuscitation skills.
* Able to work independently with sound clinical judgement.
* Strong, compassionate communication skills with families and teams.
* Effective teamwork and collaboration skills.
* Bachelor Degree of Medicine.
* Current AHPRA registration as a Specialist Paediatrician, Paediatric Palliative Care Specialist, or Palliative Care Specialist (or working towards paediatric palliative care qualifications).
A Valuable Addition, Yet Not a Must‐Have!
* Knowledge of ACSQHC National Health Care Standards.
* Proof of COVID‐19 vaccination status (or as required by legislation and WMQ policy).
* Relevant probity checks required by legislation and WMQ Limited policy.
* Current Driver's Licence and willingness to travel for work.
* NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
