Project manager – professional standards

Sydney
Hudson Global Resources

Offer description

About the Organisation This organisation is the national peak body representing Australia's counselling and psychotherapy profession. It plays a vital role in maintaining public confidence in therapeutic care — setting standards, accrediting practitioners, and supporting professional development across the mental health and wellbeing sector.

Its work ensures that counsellors and psychotherapists across Australia practise safely, ethically, and effectively. Through the development of standards, accreditation frameworks and quality systems, the organisation strengthens both professional recognition and the delivery of high-quality care to communities nationwide.

About the Role This is a unique opportunity for a skilled Project Manager to lead initiatives that define how clinical practitioners are recognised, assessed, and supported across Australia.

As Project Manager – Professional Standards & Accreditation, you'll oversee the design and delivery of projects that underpin professional recognition — from developing competency frameworks and assessment models, to implementing recognition of prior learning (RPL) pathways and enhancing accreditation processes.

You'll bring structure and clarity to complex workstreams, partnering with senior leaders, governance committees, and clinical experts to ensure outcomes are robust, evidence-based, and practical for practitioners in diverse settings.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys managing projects with purpose — combining analytical thinking, stakeholder engagement, and systems design to deliver meaningful results for the profession.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead end-to-end delivery of accreditation and professional standards projects
* Develop project scopes, workplans, timelines, and risk frameworks
* Translate project goals into clear deliverables and measurable outcomes
* Document frameworks, guidelines, and tools that support practitioner assessment
* Engage with governance committees, clinical experts, and assessors to gather insights
* Prepare project documentation, briefings, and recommendations for leadership
* Ensure all frameworks align with regulatory expectations and reflect contemporary clinical practice

About You You are an experienced project professional who thrives on structure, collaboration, and impact. You bring energy to complex projects and have the confidence to engage diverse stakeholders — from clinicians and academics to senior executives and regulatory partners.

You'll bring:

* Proven experience delivering structured projects or major initiatives
* Strong analytical and organisational skills with attention to detail
* Excellent written communication and documentation ability
* Confidence managing stakeholder relationships and facilitating collaboration
* Tertiary qualification in counselling, psychotherapy, psychology, social work, education, or a related field

Desirable:

* Experience in accreditation, competency-based assessment, or regulatory frameworks
* Familiarity with peak bodies, professional associations, or medical colleges

Why You'll Love This Role

* Help shape national standards that strengthen safe, effective clinical care
* Work in a supportive, values-driven environment with flexible hybrid arrangements
* Enjoy salary packaging benefits and professional growth opportunities
* A rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about quality, integrity, and impact

Your Professional and Clinical Context While this is first and foremost a project management role, success depends on your ability to bridge structure with understanding.

You may have worked in counselling, psychotherapy, psychology, social work, education, or wellbeing, or supported practitioners through training, accreditation, or policy initiatives. That grounding gives you insight into the realities of clinical practice — how care is delivered, assessed, and experienced.

You'll draw on this experience to:

* Translate therapeutic and ethical principles into tangible frameworks
* Build systems that are both rigorous and workable in practice
* Facilitate engagement between practitioners, experts, and governance bodies
* Deliver projects that truly enhance professional standards and recognition

This is an ideal next step for someone who wants to move from individual or program-level work to system-level impact — applying both their clinical understanding and project capability to create lasting change in the profession.
