The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

Your Impact
As a valued member of the Aboriginal Legal Services, you’ll play a key role in leading and strengthening the ALS strategic data function, ensuring high-quality, strategic oversight of data governance, systems and reporting frameworks to build organisational capability and meet internal, external and funding obligations. Each day, you will:

* Lead and oversee the strategic data function, including analytics, BI, reporting and governance.
* Develop and implement data governance frameworks aligned with Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Closing the Gap principles.
* Provide high-level strategic and technical advice to Executive on data capability, systems, risks, and opportunities.
* Oversee business intelligence tools, dashboards and reporting to ensure accurate, timely and compliant outputs.
* Strengthen data systems, quality, and organisational capability to support service delivery, evaluation, and advocacy.
* Lead and manage the data team, resourcing, and cross-sector collaboration in line with ALS values and compliance requirements.

Your Story & Strengths
You are a skilled and motivated leader who understands and respects the cultural, social, and historical context that shapes the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You bring both technical excellence and a deep commitment to community and justice. Key strengths include:
* Demonstrated cultural capability and respect for Aboriginal communities, with an understanding of Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Closing the Gap principles.
* Proven leadership of strategic data, analytics or business intelligence functions within complex environments.
* Strong project management, chaStrategicnge leadership and executive-level communication skills.
* Advanced technical expertise in data analytics, reporting, SQL and at least one analytics language (e.g. R, Python, STATA), plus BI tools.
* Experience managing client data systems and delivering accurate, high-quality insights that support service delivery and compliance.
* Ability to build organisational capability across dispersed teams, with relevant tertiary qualifications and sector experience highly regarded.
