Job Summary Exciting opportunity to join the ConocoPhillips Australia Team as M&R Specialist – Electrical. Position Overview ConocoPhillips’ Australian headquarters are located in Brisbane. Our focus is supplying Australian customers with natural gas and international customers with liquefied natural gas. We do this through our 47.5 percent interest in the Australia Pacific LNG joint venture, one of the largest producers of natural gas in eastern Australia. ConocoPhillips Australia also operates the Australia Pacific LNG liquefied natural gas facility near Gladstone. We are also an exploration company, with ongoing exploration occurring in the Bowen and Surat Basin in Central Queensland and new exploration in the Otway Basin along the southern coast of Australia to identify natural gas reserves for supply to Australian customers. About the Role The M&R Specialist – Electrical is a key member of the ConocoPhillips (COP) Australia Pacific LNG Downstream (DS) Maintenance & Reliability team. This position contributes to building a learning organisation committed to operational excellence through continuous improvement, achieving zero injuries or incidents, and ensuring compliance with all standards and processes. Reporting to the M&R Supervisor – Reliability, the M&R Specialist – Electrical serves as the Senior Authorized Electrical Person and the onsite Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas (EEHA) Subject Matter Expert (SME). This role is critical in ensuring electrical safety on site by maintaining compliance with the Electrical Code of Practice and the Permit to Work processes. The role also ensures that maintenance and reliability activities support the safe, reliable, and cost‑effective operation of all electrical systems and equipment. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Monitor compliance with the ABU Electrical Code of Practice. Own electrical system–related HAZID/IRMS items, vulnerabilities, and areas of unease. Provide SME input into electrical incident investigations. Approve certified and uncertified electrical equipment for facility use. Manage competency verification, authorisations, and competency audits for electrical personnel. Support Operations and Maintenance teams with electrical troubleshooting, technical clarification, and risk ranking of maintenance notifications. Support Defect Elimination and facilitate Root Cause Analysis for electrical systems. Review maintenance history to improve electrical maintenance strategies, balancing integrity, reliability, cost, and compliance. Manage key electrical maintenance contracts. Review and approve documents and modifications under the Management of Change process. Provide input into maintenance and repair scopes for campaigns, shutdowns, and capital projects. Review and risk‑assess PM deferrals for electrical and power equipment. Audit preservation of electrical equipment and spares; recommend inventory optimisation. Monitor and manage costs under the Electrical M&R Program within the APLNG M&R budget. Oversee delivery of the EEHA assurance program, ensuring standards, closure of non‑compliances, and dossier accuracy. Ensure the EEHA RBI program meets assurance intent and is continuously optimised. You will bring to the role Cultural alignment with ConocoPhillips’ SPIRIT Values. Electrical Trade Qualification with Queensland Electrical Mechanic License. Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering at the Associate Diploma level. Minimum 10 years of post-trade industrial electrical experience in the oil and gas, petrochemical or heavy industry. Formal competencies in High Voltage Switching Operations (HVSO) competency. Formal competencies in Electrical Equipment for Hazardous Area (EEHA) – design, selection, installation and maintenance, with minimum of 5 years of practical experience. Experience delivering an RBI EEHA assurance program. Extensive experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical systems, including base load and emergency power generation, power management and load shedding schemes, high voltage (HV) distribution and switchgear up to 33kV, low voltage (LV) equipment, intelligent motor control centers (MCC) and uninterruptable power supplies (UPS). SAP experience or similar computer-based maintenance system. Working knowledge of plant control systems eg. PLC, DCS, and SIS control systems. Knowledge of the Queensland Electrical Safety Act, associated Regulations and Codes of Practice. Electrical permit to work (PTW) systems, administration, and authority. Experience supervising electrical work teams. Competency assessment for electrical switching and isolation activities. Preferred Auditing qualifications and experience. Investigation experience. Experience in Defect Elimination and facilitation of Root Cause analysis workshops.
