About the role Due to expansion at our College, we have an opportunity available for a suitably qualified Education Support Officer & Security Officer at our brand new Ipswich Campus. The position is an initial fixed term contract for an immediate start with the possibility of the contract becoming ongoing. Educational Support: Assist teachers in the delivery of specialised programs and individual learning plans for students with special needs. Support students in their classroom activities, ensuring that they are able to engage with and participate in learning tasks. Provide one-on-one or small group support, assisting with literacy, numeracy, and social skills development. Monitor students’ progress and report on their achievements, challenges, and behavioural concerns. Adapt learning materials and resources to suit individual student needs. Foster an inclusive, positive, and engaging learning environment for all students. Security & Student Safety: Ensure the safety and wellbeing of students throughout the school day, including during classroom activities, breaks, and transition times. Implement strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours, using restrictive practices when necessary and in compliance with legal and ethical guidelines. Maintain security of the school premises, supporting staff with student supervision and responding to incidents in a calm, professional manner. Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and leadership to address behavioural concerns and create strategies for student success. Record and report incidents, ensuring that all actions taken are in line with school policies and procedures. Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications & Experience: Certificate III or IV in Education Support (or equivalent) is desirable. Certificate II in Security Operations is desirable Security Licence Current QLD Open Drivers Licence Experience in working with students with special educational needs, particularly in a special assistance or alternative education setting. Training and experience in restrictive practices and behaviour management strategies. First aid certification or willingness to obtain. Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies regarding student welfare, restrictive practices, and special education or willing to learn Skills & Attributes: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and families. Ability to respond calmly and professionally in high-pressure situations. A high level of empathy and patience when working with students with complex needs. Capacity to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate as part of a team. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. Ability to maintain a secure and safe learning environment while supporting student engagement. Desirable: Experience working in a security role or with a security-focused component. Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and how to apply them in an educational setting. Experience working in a school or educational environment.
