We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

With an embedded vision to develop the whole child to succeed in an ever-changing world, Willetton Primary School (PS) is a high achieving school of choice, offering educational opportunities for Kindergarten to Year 6 students. Located in the southern suburbs of Perth the student and parent community reflect a diverse cultural background, comprising 635 students from 38 different nationalities, with 48 languages other than English spoken within the community. The school is highly regarded locally, nationally, and internationally and the demand for enrolment is strong. As a result, strict boundaries for enrolment are applied.

The Role

As an Education Assistant – Special Needs you will ideally possess the knowledge and experience of working with students with a range of disabilities and learning difficulties, as well as the ability to support student growth, both academically and socially, within the classroom setting. You should show a genuine passion for working with students and have highly developed organisational and interpersonal skills. Suitable applicants should be committed to achieving the best educational outcomes for our students. This role requires you to work as part of a dedicated team and provides you with the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to our school community. You may be working across a range of classrooms therefore the ability to be flexible will be an advantage.

Suitable applicants will support students with special needs while working collaboratively with class teachers and other support staff. We are seeking collaborative, team focused individuals who can support students across a range of special needs. Applicants should be innovative and have strong behaviour management skills, particularly the ability to respond effectively to challenging or complex behaviours.

As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you are responsible for assisting in the delivery of planned education programs that will help students achieve success whilst supporting the general health and wellbeing of students.

We seek enthusiastic team members who show initiative in adapting tasks to meet student needs, who continually reflect on their practice and who are open to being observed and receiving feedback to guide their professional growth. Suitable applicants will ideally contribute expertise and advice, collaborating with staff to monitor and support student progress.

- A CV of up to two (2) pages outlining your employment history and professional learning summary relevant to this position.
- A four (4) page statement addressing the following selection criteria as outlined in the attached JDF
- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
