Job Description
SGS is seeking a highly skilled Chemist to join our laboratory services team based in the Northern Territory. This role supports one of our key energy sector contracts and offers the opportunity to work with advanced analytical instrumentation in a dynamic and safety-focused environment.
In this role, your responsibilities will include, however not limited to:
* Coordinate resources for sampling and testing of in-process materials, environmental conditions, and utilities, in line with scheduled programs and under guidance from senior staff.
* Operate, calibrate, and maintain analytical instruments including:
o Gas Chromatography (GC)
o Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP)
o Ion Chromatography (IC)
o Auto Titrators
o UV/Visible Spectrophotometers
* Maintain comprehensive laboratory records, including calibration data, results, and maintenance logs in LIMS.
* Safely operate sampling stations handling liquefied hydrocarbons, gases, cryogenic liquids, and hazardous aqueous samples.
* Interpret P&ID drawings to configure sampling equipment safely and appropriately.
* Perform LNG custody transfer analysis with precision and adherence to protocols.
* Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for GCMS, surface tension, and physical property analysis in support of foam, emulsion, and phase separation studies.
* Develop cheminformatics procedures to support advanced chemical investigations and testing governance.
* Provide monthly activity and KPI reports, and oversee instrument performance and third-party testing as required.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Tertiary qualifications in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
* Proven experience working with gas and petrochemical products.
* Strong competency with laboratory information systems (LIMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
* A sound understanding of laboratory quality systems (ISO/IEC 17025 preferred).
* Exceptional attention to detail, safety awareness, and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment.
