About the position
This opportunity is suitable for practitioners with experience and an interest in working within the disability and complex mental health in an adult and youth forensic space. We are looking for individuals to join us in a Senior Forensic Practitioner capacity. We currently deliver both direct (e.g. intervention) and indirect (e.g. forensic reports) services to individuals with complex needs who are subject to requirements under legislative frameworks. We also provide support to teams of individuals subject to forensic frameworks and provide specialist advice to support positive behaviour in the community.
Responsibilities
- Conducting a range of forensic assessments including risk assessments, treatment plans and other court-required documentation
- Identifying appropriate supports, interventions, and service models for individuals subject to various orders or those who are at risk of coming into contact with the justice system
- Supporting individuals transitioning from prison to community living under various frameworks; including as a behaviour support practitioner with specialised knowledge in forensic and disability needs
- Preparing, writing and delivering assessment reports for other supporting bodies (e.g. the relevant state / territory Department and the National Disability Insurance Scheme)
- Providing high-level clinical consulting and engagement in multidisciplinary meetings to provide leadership, guidance and reflective practice opportunities for teams
- Providing consultation, training and advice to teams directly supporting our clients (e.g. disability support workers)
- Opportunity to work collaboratively with a wide range of professionals (e.g. allied health professionals, mental health professionals, forensic specific services and / or disability specific support services)
- Providing behaviour support for clients with complex disabilities and psycho-social support needs including the development of behaviour support plans and training/implementation of plans
- Opportunity to develop and deliver a range of direct interventions (e.g. offence-specific and offence-related intervention)
- Provide supervision and expertise to other practitioners in the organisation
Note: some aspects of the role will differ depending on the successful candidate’s professional background, incl. their qualification, skills and relevant experience.
Our office is based in Winnellie. The position will require regular travel around the Darwin metro area and occasional regional travel. Opportunities for interstate / remote area projects are available to our team of practitioners at times. There is also an option to work from home for administration / report writing.
Criteria / Qualifications
Desired Skills and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in a related discipline relevant to the field of forensic practice and / or behaviour support (e.g. psychology, social work, occupational therapy, or disability), and relevant registration with the appropriate regulatory board (e.g. AHPRA) and / or registration with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
- Experience in working with people with intellectual disabilities, mental health issues and/or experiences of trauma who have complex needs.
- Minimum of 5 years experience within the forensic field, and knowledge of relevant forensic frameworks. Experience working under relevant legislative frameworks is desirable.
- Experience in providing clinical and / or behaviour assessment, intervention and support in forensic services, disability and/or other relevant sectors.
- Experience in completing complex assessment reports and experience in risk assessment. Experience giving evidence at court is desirable.
Due to the nature of our business, it is required that our staff:
- have a current Driver’s Licence
- have a current Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening, or the ability to attain these checks
- are willing to adhere to the Government requirements regarding vaccinations for workers in certain sectors, if applicable.
