Utilise your legal policy expertise to provide support and advice to Emergency Management Victoria in a friendly and supportive team.

VPS Grade 5: $106,534 - $128,897 plus superannuation.

About The Business Unit

Emergency Management Victoria (EMV) leads emergency management in Victoria by working with government, agencies and business to strengthen their capacity to withstand, plan for, respond to and recover from emergencies. EMV is a statutory entity and is part of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (the Department). The Department, through the Secretary, employs EMV staff and provides corporate functions to EMV. EMV is led jointly by the Deputy Secretary, Emergency Management/Chief Executive (CE) and the Emergency Management Commissioner (EMC).

About The Role

Reporting to the Manager, Legal Policy and Legislation, the Senior Legal Policy Officer delivers innovative and expert strategic and authoritative legal policy advice to the Director, other senior EMV and Departmental officers and the Minister on a wide variety of issues related to emergency management in Victoria.

Some Of Your Duties Will Include
* Drive the development and implementation of policy and legislative proposals, including through consultation and negotiation with key stakeholders in relation to options for legislative change, and the preparation of Cabinet and Parliamentary documentation.
* Provide strategic and authoritative legal policy advice to senior executives and government, including operational legal policy advice to support the EMC and CE in the performance of their statutory functions.
* Prepare and present comprehensive reports, ministerial briefs and Cabinet and agency submissions on complex issues and significant policy and strategy proposals, as well as prepare regular and ad hoc briefs, letters, emails and reports.
About You
* Experience with the development of legal policy, legislation and relevant frameworks.
* Demonstrated understanding and awareness of the key issues impacting on the emergency management portfolio.
* An understanding of the structure and responsibilities of the Department of Justice and Community Safety and, more broadly, the Victorian Government.
* Knowledge and experience in emergency management is desired but not essential.
Qualifications
* A law degree is highly desirable, otherwise a degree in government administration, public policy, emergency management or a related field is required.
