Founded in 1952, the Paspaley Pearls Group is a a diverse assembly of companies. Whilst Paspaley core business is in pearling, including pearl production, wholesale, and retail, it also has extensive involvement and interests in ship repair and engineering, aviation, agriculture, hospitality and resort accommodation and commercial property. It remains a wholly owned 100% Australian family organisation and presently there are approximately 1000 employees working within the Group nationwide.

About the role

This critical "hands on" centralised Group role is based in Darwin NT and reports directly to the Executive Director – Paspaley Pearls Group to lead and manage the HR team in the development and implementation of HR strategies, policies and programs that support both the Group's and individual Business Units' long term objectives, vision and values of Paspaley and ensure that all HR programs and initiatives are delivered effectively and efficiently.

Essential for the Group Manager – Human Resources is having excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and the ability to effectively communicate HR policies and procedures to management and employees. Having a modern understanding of HRIS and having a high level of emotional intelligence (EQ) to effectively manage employee relations, resolve conflicts, and maintain positive relationships with employees and stakeholders is paramount.

The role requires a strong understanding of employment laws and regulations to ensure the Group's compliance of legal requirements including equal opportunity employment laws, data protection regulations, and employee safety regulations as well as the business acumen to understand business objectives and financial goals and then align HR strategies with these goals.

As the Group's leader in HR the candidate must be able to analyse data and information to identify HR trends and issues, and then with senior management develop solutions to address them and continue to maintain and support a positive organisational culture.

The role requires a high-calibre Group Manager – Human Resources who is an excellent communicator with professional qualifications (Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred), with at least 10 years demonstrated operational experience, with at least 5 of those years in a senior or strategic HR management position in a complex organisation with multi-site investment and interests in many diverse industries, who is comfortable in presenting and communicating HR and employment circumstances to all levels of stakeholders in plain English.

For the candidate, who is a highly self-motivated individual, who possesses the ability to motivate others, this is a fantastic opportunity to move into a highly successful business with a dynamic commercial entrepreneurial environment.

The successful candidate will also need to be fantastically organised, able to multi-task, work autonomously, prioritise work, take initiative, demonstrate flexibility and work accurately under pressure whilst adhering to deadlines.

Essentially the successful candidate will have a modern outlook on HR issues and experienced with HRIS, and having previously used or have knowledge and understanding of Chris 21 and ELMO would be considered favourable.
