Position Summary
Tangentyere Council deliver a range of Youth, Family & Community Safety (YFCS) services across Town Camps and Alice Springs, supporting children, young people, families, and communities through the delivery of daytime and after-hours services focused on recreation, diversion, residential care, community safety and family support programs.
The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, high-quality meals for clients accessing TCAC after-hours Youth Programs. Directly reporting to the Program Coordinator, this role plays a vital part in promoting health and wellbeing among young people through thoughtful meal planning and preparation that align with their interests and dietary needs. The Cook is expected to ensure all food handling complies with Territory and National Food Safety Standards, maintaining a clean, safe, and well-equipped kitchen environment at the 3 Brown Street facility.
Beyond meal preparation, the Cook will lead menu planning and recipe development, manage procurement and inventory, and prepare bulk meals five days a week. A current Food Supervisor certification is required. The Cook also works collaboratively with Team Leaders to deliver kitchen inductions and educate Youth and Family Services staff on safe and effective food preparation and service.
As part of your role, you may be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable. Responsibilities
•Plan, prepare and cook nutritious meals for the Tangentyere after-hours Youth Programs.
•Procurement of all food and supplies accordance with menu and budgets.
•Supervise the 3 Brown Street Kitchen as the certified NT Food Supervisor.
•Ensure accurate and detailed reporting requirements are met.
•Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the YFCS division.
•Works collaboratively within the YFCS division.
•Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.
•Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.
•Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.
•Other reasonable duties as required.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
Required
•Previous experience in food and meal preparation, commercial kitchen or cook experience.
•Basic literacy, numeracy, and administration skills
•Ability to prioritise and organise workload
•Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.
Desired
•Current First Aid Certificate, or ability and willingness to attain.
•Holds SITSS00069 food safety supervision skill set or willing to obtain within the first two-weeks of employment.
•Ability to understand or speak one or more Aboriginal languages
•Previous experience working with children, young people, or communities.
•An understanding of Aboriginal culture as well as a broad range of contemporary issues affecting Central Australian Aboriginal people.
