About the role

We're seeking an experienced and strategic Service Lead Transport & Design Engineering to take charge of the planning and design of the City of Canning's roads and road reserve infrastructure—helping create a safer, more connected, and efficient transport network for our growing community.

As the Service Lead, you will provide strong leadership and manage a skilled team of engineers and technical officers, lead Service Area planning and reporting, and ensure alignment with the City's integrated transport strategy, asset management frameworks, and community expectations.

Reporting to the Manager Engineering Services, this is a unique, leadership role that combines technical expertise with strategic design, planning and stakeholder engagement.

A snapshot of the role

* Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical professionals
* Provide expert technical and operational advice to the Executive Leadership team and City stakeholders
* Develop and drive innovative planning and design of the City's roads and road infrastructure, ensuring sustainability and lifecycle value optimisation, as well as addressing current and future community needs
* Develop and maintain key Service Area planning documents including the City's Water Management Strategy, Drainage Plan, Road Safety Management Plan and relevant road reserve policies
* Manage the scoping, planning, design and evaluation of projects in-line with the City's project management framework and methodology
* Manage and report on budgeting, funding and expenditure, providing key insights and commentary
* Manage relationships with State and Federal departments, ensuring alignment with local transportation matters and maximising opportunities for State and Federal grant funding
* Lead implementation of resource efficiency, and sustainable consumption and production concepts in engineering design and construction processes
* Collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders to ensure effective project planning, design and delivery to community expectations

What you will need to succeed

You're a highly motivated engineering professional with strong leadership capabilities and ability to deliver on strategic and operational priorities. You have a deep understanding of road and transport design principles and a proven ability to manage complex projects, balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders and the community.

* Proven leadership experience with the ability to inspire, mentor, and drive a high-performing team
* Demonstrated ability to drive delivery of strategic and operational outcomes, set expectations and measure success
* Significant experience in engineering and the planning, design and delivery of road and road reserve infrastructure projects
* Details knowledge and understanding of roads and road reserve infrastructure, and of relevant design standards, legislation, and regulatory frameworks
* Highly developed interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills including the ability to research, write reports and plans, and liaise with senior leadership and a broad range of stakeholders
* Strong project management skills with a focus on delivering quality outcomes on time and within budget
* A collaborative, solutions-focused approach and a deep understanding of road and transport challenges in growing urban environments
* Advanced Technical College qualifications in a relevant field (ideally tertiary engineering qualifications and accreditation to a relevant professional engineering body)
* Able to provide a Satisfactory National Police Clearance and C class driver's license
