We have an exciting opportunity for a Food Commodity Buyer (Agriculture) to join the Strategic Sourcing team on a permanent full-time basis at Woolworths Food Company!
The Food Commodity Buyer (Agriculture) is responsible for buying, selling and sanctioning crops, building and executing the sourcing strategy as well as developing appropriate sources of supply to support the category strategy. Those strategies will be both sustainable supply and innovative; delivering quality, sustainable and competitive costs for our Own & Exclusive products which in turn supports the category sales and profit metrics.
This hybrid role located in Sydney offers flexible work arrangements with the opportunity to work from home and work from our Bella Vista office from time to time.

**About the Opportunity**
As a Food Commodity Buyer, your main responsibilities will be to provide a high level of commercial acumen, with daily buying, selling, trading bulk agricultural materials, input on planning, forecasting and budget maintenance.
This role requires strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to deal with various teams such as Commercial, Finance, Replenishment, Product Development teams, Growers, Manufacturers, Contract Packers, suppliers and Customers.
Other key responsibilities include but are not limited to;
- Understanding supply base capability and constantly scope the supplier landscape to identify opportunities
- Building strong relationships with key suppliers which will deliver long term competitive advantage
- Forecasting and sanctioning crops inline with our supply requirements.
- Tendering on Ingredients, raw materials, toll processing or finished goods.
- Reviewing product, capability, capacity, specifications, quality.
- Building, reviewing and refining sourcing strategies to deliver to the category strategy.
- Net reduction in Cost of Goods and Raw Ingredients to achieve Gross Profit targets.
- Negotiating and building contracts on existing & new products to reflect the sourcing strategy
- Maintaining and updating competitor Pricing Analysis, Contract Review Schedule
- Educating the team on Agricultural ingredients, Crop cycles and sanctions.
- Ensuring supplier compliance with supply expectations and targets.
- Promoting a responsible sourcing mindset and food safety culture.
- Researching and implementing new partnerships enabling growth in new markets.

As a Food Commodity Buyer, you have an exceptional ability to build lasting relationships and partner with stakeholders across all levels of an organisation - a skill that has been developed through your previous experience in a strategic business partner role. You will also ideally have:
- Demonstrated experience in high value retail, commercial or agricultural buying
- Prior experience in sourcing, supplier development, procurement, and sales
- Strong understanding of crop sanctioning, seasonal cycles, product componentry and cost makeup of goods, as well as knowledge of manufacturing processes, and impact on cost of goods.
- Knowledge of local and international sourcing processes & FX currencies..
- Ability to manage risk in responsible & Sustainable sourcing, pre-empting impacts and developing plans to eliminate or mitigate such impacts
